Hi everyone – we hope you’re all staying safe and well as the winter cold starts to bite. We’ve got some great new opportunities to keep your heart warm by helping Lambeth residents who could really benefit from your support.
Here is a bubble of young volunteers, suitably covered up for both lockdown and the weather, shopping for a sheltered neighbour in Clapham Park and demonstrating excellent bag re-using skills at the same time. Thank you both!
Rathbone Youth Centre – Learning Mentors
Rathbone works with disadvantaged young people who are struggling at school and need extra support with their learning. They are looking for volunteers who can commit an hour a week for at least six months to help a student – between Y7 and Y11– with their homework and/or revision in one subject, for example English (many students come from households where English is not the first language), Maths, History or Science. Study support sessions are online, with a parent or guardian on site with the child, usually outside school hours. The current pandemic has put additional pressure on the lives and education of the young people so if you could spare an hour a week to help a child keep up with their learning, Rathbone Youth Centre would like to hear from you. Here are some testimonials that demonstrate the great value of this role. Use the Learning Mentor form to find out more.
Age UK – Phone Friends
As we move into the winter months and with COVID still a topic of daily conversation, Age UK are still actively recruiting for volunteers. Whether you would like to volunteer to have a 'phone friend' and be matched with an elderly member of the community and have a weekly conversation that will help and reduce isolation and loneliness, or you have some extra time and would like to help elderly members of the community who may be shielding or isolating - whatever way you may able to help, they would love to hear from you. If you would like to find out about how to volunteer for Age UK Lambeth, please fill in this contact form
JAGS Foundation – Bid Writer
JAGS provides services and safe spaces for healing, education, restoration and to build resilience, using a multifaceted approach that holistically addresses violence and correlating issues in vulnerable communities. They work with intergenerational families, parents and young people in local communities disproportionately affected by child murder and rising youth-on-youth violence. They are looking for help to develop a fundraising strategy, support with researching potential funders, and then bid submissions. It’s a specialist ask – if you can help, please contact us
Loughborough Junction Action Group – HR specialist
Loughborough Junction Action Group started as a small group of volunteers over a decade ago, and have grown fantastically since then – leading on the Loughborough Farm, supporting the Platform Café, Grove Adventure Playground, Styles Gardens and many other projects, as well as working with local residents to develop new groups and projects. Now a registered charity, LJAG need to formalise their HR policies to ensure they and their potential employees are protected. If you have knowledge of HR policy and procedure they would appreciate your help enormously – please let us know
Lambeth Forum Network – Community Representatives
Could you speak for a group or community whose views and experiences might not be heard enough in local consultations or conversations? The 12 member forums of the Lambeth Forum Network would love to talk to you about representing your community in your area: black and other minority ethnic residents, young people, disability champions, social housing representatives, LGBTQI spokespeople, faith group leaders, or any other group under-represented in local community discussions. Have a look at this presentation for more information about the LFN
If you would like support to speak up for your community, or a platform to put views forward, please get in touch.
onHand – volunteering app
Volunteering app onHand is always looking for more volunteers to join their gang and they have lots of opportunities to help vulnerable and isolated people in Lambeth each week, including companionship phone calls, dog walking and shop drops. You can get involved by downloading their app on the Google Play Store or the App Store and completing an ID and DBS check so you're ready to pick up missions. It's super quick and simple and their app has been described as 'the uber for help' so you can find volunteering opportunities that are closest to you – contact us if you’d like to know more
Thank you so much for your continued support, please encourage your friends and neighbours to sign up too, and if you have any questions about Team Lambeth, or would like to recruit some volunteers yourself, please contact Gerry
