A great week for Team Lambeth in challenging times, with over 50 new volunteers signing up - welcome!
This week Age UK are looking for seasonal volunteers, there’s a befriending role at Share Community, and several tech-based opportunities with Lambeth TechAid.
Share Community
Share Community need 10 volunteers for 1-2 hours a week, depending on yours and clients’ availability, during weekdays, evenings or weekends. They’re looking for volunteer Befrienders who can offer support and friendship to help improve the quality of life of someone with a learning disability and/or autism. Some clients may also have a physical or sensory disability, and/or mental health needs. Befrienders will meet our clients outside their homes and go out locally together to do an activity of the client’s choice. This could be going for a walk, getting a cup of tea and cake, cycling around the park or helping with grocery shopping. You’ll support people to maintain positive mental health and encourage communication on meaningful topics or shared interests, helping to promote positive outlooks and raised confidence. The service will be adapted to changing Covid restrictions.
If this could be you, please send your contact details here and Share Community will be in touch with a fuller application form.
Age UK
This year has been tough for everyone and has led to most of us experiencing isolation and separation ourselves, but for some elderly members of the community this is their everyday life. This year Age UK want to spread a little cheer to those who will be spending Christmas alone, and are looking for volunteers who can simply cook an extra meal and deliver it to someone who will be completely on their own for Christmas day. Whatever you’re cooking on the day, whether it be turkey with all the trimmings or another meal, could you cook an extra portion and take it to someone who is on their own? Age UK will match you with someone local (walking distance) and supply a bag of seasonal goodies for them, dropped off to you in advance. They will even supply the plate!

Lambeth TechAid
At the moment, there are hundreds of people stuck at home without a suitable device to access the internet – to communicate with loved ones, to download educational resources, or even to get some basic entertainment. It's their aim to collect your unwanted devices and deliver them to people who really need them, to help combat isolation and exclusion.
There are a great variety of tasks you could help with – technical, transport, donations, PR or management to name a few – but at the moment they most urgently need fundraising support. Do you have some fundraising experience and some spare time?
