Happy Thursday! This week we have volunteering opportunities from Stockwell GPs, Project Smith, Home Start and DASL.
Below you can see the proof of how fun some volunteering tasks are- Hannah has been taking Cyril's dog out for a walk through her OnHand volunteering and the pup seems to be incredibly happy. Thank you, Hannah!
Stockwell Flu Vaccination Marshals
Stockwell Primary Care Network, a group of 5 GP practices, are coming together this year to offer the flu vaccine to a larger number of local residents. They are looking for 2 volunteers who can assist them next Thursday, 8 October, between 1pm and 6pm at Morley College in Stockwell. On the day they will need help with queue management, directing patients, prepping them on what to expect and keeping them comfortable. PPE and refreshments will be provided. There will be clinicians and other practice staff on site at the time and leading on the day activities as a point of contact.
To volunteer, please sign up here.
Project Smith Community Connectors
Community Connectors are local people who link others in their local community with activities and organisations that can help improve their quality of life. Lots of people in Lambeth do this naturally on a daily basis in unpaid capacities with no training or formal support, whilst others do it as part of a structured volunteering role in local community organisations.
Project Smith offers the Community Connector training and support to give these people the skills needed to be better able to talk to other people about wellbeing, the things that they can do for themselves, and places to go to access help and support doing this. After the training they go on 'Safari' and visit a different community, health or wellbeing organisation in Lambeth to help you learn about what there is in the area in order to help you signpost people to them.
Training Details:
The dates for the next Community Connector training programme are: October 13th, 20th, 21st and 27th. Two days on the training are dedicated to the Royal Society Level 2 Qualification in Supporting Behaviour Change, which is the qualification you can receive as part of your training. All training days run from 9.30am - 3pm and you need to attend all 4 days to become a Community Connector. The venue is Stockwell Community Trust in Stockwell, which is a Covid safe venue.

Home Start Volunteer
Home-Start Lambeth volunteers provide support, friendship and practical help to families with at least one child under five who are experiencing difficulties. Given COVID-19, this support is currently provided over the phone, via Zoom, and through socially distanced meetings.
They invest in their volunteers, providing them with training and 1-2-1 support from a Coordinator. They ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 1 hour a week, for at least 6 months.

- Co-facilitating family peer support groups over Zoom with Home-Start staff.
- Building a supportive relationship with the family in which the challenges of family life can be discussed and positive strategies encouraged.
- Encouraging parents’ strengths and emotional well-being so they can best support their children.
- Encouraging families to widen their network of relationships and to use effectively the support and services available in the community.
What is the time commitment?
They ask their volunteers to commit to:
- Attend an initial training course, delivered online and normally lasting 6 hours over 2 days.
- Provide support to at least 1 family for 1-2 hours per week, according to the needs of the family.
- Attend regular support /supervision with a Coordinator (every 6 weeks).
- Commit to volunteering for a minimum of six months or more.

Disability Advice Service Lambeth- Italian speaking volunteer
DASL is a local, user-led organisation run by disabled people. This is subject to an enhanced DBS check that the organisation would assist with.
If you would want to volunteer, please email Oana on oolaru@lambeth.gov.uk.
