Next week: Join Lambeth Clean Air Weekā€™s online events!

Lambethā€™s annual National Clean Air Day celebrations are marked with a week of events to raise awareness of air pollution issues and empower people to improve air quality in Lambeth. This year, between 5th ā€“ 9th October, weā€™re going online with exciting virtual sessions to make sure that the week is as inspirational as ever.

Highlights include a webinar with Councillor Claire Holland and partner organisations that tackle air pollution across Lambeth, who will present their incredible work around the borough. Weā€™ll also be welcoming Dr Bike to Windrush Square for free bike maintenance, and hosting another Twitter Takeover to answer your questions live.

Take a look at the full itinerary on Love Lambeth. We look forward to seeing you there!

Joshua

Standing up for children and young people's free travel

Your Lambeth councillors are backing the ā€˜Donā€™t Zap the Zipā€™ campaign to stop the Government taking away free public transport for under-18-year-olds.Ā

Lambeth Council Cabinet Members for Transport and Children, Claire Holland and Ed Davie, joined campaigners in Parliament Square to tell the Government to reverse their decision.

They met Lambeth-born 14-year-old Joshua Brown-Smith who started a Change.org petition against the plan that has gained more than 200,000 signatures.

Watch Joshua tell us why the zip card is essential to young people in Lambeth.

School streets

Two more low-traffic neighbourhoods and 14 school streets launched

In September, Streatham Hill and Tulse Hill low traffic neighbourhoods were launched. The LTNs make streets safer to walk and cycle by stopping rat-running traffic and are part of our emergency response to the impact of covid-19 on public transport capacity.Ā

We also launched 14 new school streets, timed closures at drop-off and pick-up times to help students, teachers and parents to maintain safe social distancing at the school gates and encourage sustainable travel to school.Ā
