Changes to library services during the coronavirus pandemic

rb-digital

We are writing to you to let you know some important information about your library membership.

To keep our customers safe we have closed our libraries until government rules allow us to reopen.

Overdue books and renewals

  • Do not worry about overdue books and charges as we will deal with these for you. We will renew all your items during the lockdown period so do hold onto them for us and keep them safe.
  • If you have requested any books these will remain on the system and will be supplied when libraries re-open. However during this closure period it will not be possible for you to place any new reservations on books.
  • If you need help we can still assist you by phone 020 7926 0750 or email libraries@lambeth.gov.uk

Access our e-library of books, magazines and films

Our Reading Groups have gone online!

Every month Lambeth Libraries have been hosting reading groups, bringing people together in their local library discussing a particular book. As this isn't possible at the moment we've moved our groups onto Zoom so we can still get together and won't miss our weekly get-together's.

You can find more information about each of the groups and what they are discussing on your local library Facebook page or email me at todell@lambeth.gov.uk. All welcome.

Lock-down Diaries

8yo diary #lockdown

#lockdown. An 8 year old diary under lock-down, Anon

The Lock-down Diaries, a Lambeth Archives project to collect local people’s experiences of the Corona virus epidemic in Lambeth.

The Lock-down Diaries project is to encourage people living in the borough to start keeping and then to send to the Archives copies of diaries documenting their lives right now.

The Archives is interested in hearing from anyone in the borough, young and old. We are particularly interested in the experiences of people whose lives have been dramatically changed, or overwhelmed, by recent events: NHS staff in Kings or St Thomas’, public health workers in the council, or anyone whose working life has been transformed by the current lock down.

The last pandemic to strike Lambeth was the Spanish Flu outbreak of 1918-20, when thousands died across London. Apart from some local press reporting and medical officers’ reports there is almost no documentation in the archives of what that pandemic meant for ordinary people’s lives in Lambeth. The Lock-down diaries project seeks to make our current experiences much better documented.

To participate and to find out more contact archives@lambeth.gov.uk or by Twitter @LambethArchives
