Make your views count – are you registered to vote?

To vote at the UK general election on Thursday 7 May, you must apply to register by Monday 20 April.

We also have local district elections in every council ward and parish and town council elections in some areas of Kirklees.

Applications can take time to verify as registration is not an automatic process so please apply to register as soon as possible.

Why should I register?

3 our of 10 18-24 yr olds are not registered to vote

Being registered means you can vote to choose the right people to represent you, it's easy to do and gives you the chance to have your say on issues that affect you.

If you’re not registered you can’t vote, you could also be refused a loan, a mobile phone contract or even be turned down for a mortgage or bank account. Not being registered can also affect your credit rating.

How do I apply to register to vote?

25% of single people are not registered to vote

It’s quick and easy (it takes around 5 minutes) - you just need to give your name, address, national insurance number and date of birth.
