We're celebrating 100 years since the birth of Michael Bond, one of the most beloved authors of all time. Stories of Paddington Bear have delighted children all over the world for more than sixty years with over 45 million Paddington books sold worldwide. Born on 13th January 1926, Michael introduced the world to characters such as Olga da Polga, The Herbs with Parsley the Lion, The Castle Mice and of course, Paddington Bear.
We have lots of Paddington Bear books in our libraries and they continue to delight the children of Kirklees. Check out the list on our catalogue where you can reserve a copy for free delivery to your local library, or even better, download the Kirklees Libraries app on your phone and reserve one from there!

We’re getting ready to welcome you.
Huddersfield’s new library hub opens this September and so much of it has been shaped by you. Back in 2025, over 1,000 people shared their ideas during our Libraries Festival. You told us you wanted:
• big, diverse book collections
• comfortable reading spaces
• creative workshops
• free digital access
• wellbeing sessions
The new hub will include a fabulous children's library, awesome teen stock, a MakerSpace with textile and fabrication tools, quiet study zones, more than 20 free computers, meeting rooms and accessible design features throughout. Opening day is just the beginning. We’ll keep listening and evolving the space with you.
We can’t wait to see you there!
 National Share-a-Story Month 2026 – Once Upon a Storytime
Share your love of stories by reading aloud! Once Upon a Storytime invites you to celebrate the way that reading aloud and sharing a story with others creates a special magic of its own.
Characters come to life with gestures and voices, the action has pace and atmosphere and best of all the reader and the audience are on the journey together.
This month, embrace the enchantment of Once Upon a Storytime. Whatever the age of the children you come across, Go All In and read to them – aloud!
Why not enter the FCBG Once Upon a Storytime competition to win book bundles?
