Highlights from 2025
Your voice in action
This year, Panel members took part in a number of important reviews, including:
-
Helping shape the new Tenant Voice Strategy, which has led to a new style of tenant forums and more community-based engagement across Kirklees.
-
Supporting improvements to the repairs redesign, making sure tenant concerns were raised before wider consultation.
-
Reviewing updates on damp & mould, fire safety, complaints handling and service performance — giving feedback to make information clearer and more helpful for tenants.
 Better information for tenants
Panel members worked with the service to improve:
-
Complaints guidance, making it easier to understand and more user-friendly.
-
Annual rent letters, ensuring important information (such as pension credit reminders) is included.
-
Guidance for domestic recording systems (e.g. Ring doorbells) so tenants feel confident using them safely.
 Keeping tenants updated
Throughout the year, we received regular updates on:
-
Fire safety works
-
Changes to the Tenancy Agreement
-
New housing systems, including CX and improvements to the Choose ’n’ Move website
-
The Regulatory Notice and Ombudsman findings
We provided feedback on each area to help shape clearer communications and stronger support for tenants.
 Changes influenced by the Panel
New ‘Get Involved’ Handbook
We helped develop this new guide for Tenants & Residents Associations, ready to be shared in early 2026.
Your first Tenant Newsletter
We supported the launch of the Tenant newsletter, with the first edition sent in October, which reached over 5,000 tenants. If you know someone who’d like to receive the next one, please encourage them to sign up at: www.kirklees.gov.uk/tenant
Shaping the Tenant Voice Strategy
Panel members played a key role in developing the new action plan, which aims to make tenant involvement more accessible and improve how the council listens and responds.
 Looking ahead to 2026
Next year we’ll be focusing on:
-
More community-based Your Voice Matters events
-
Engagement sessions on repairs-related policies
-
A new webpage listing all tenant engagement opportunities
-
Ongoing work to challenge and support the Homes & Neighbourhoods service on behalf of tenants
