Library Adventures: imagined by children, created by Kirklees Libraries

Library Adventures header

Library Adventures, our new year-round reading for pleasure programme for children aged 4-11. Coming soon to a library near you.

Six themes - Animal Planet, Magical Lands, Oceans, Rainforests, Space Explorer and Spooky - all chosen by children across Kirklees and appearing at some time at every library across Kirklees. Library Adventurer packs, booklists, themed activities, and stickers. All aimed at encouraging children and their adults to read for pleasure.

It's a year-round journey, so if you've got a really busy summer planned, don't worry, you'll be able to explore, discover, create and read in the colder months too!

Beyond The Bassline: Celebrating 500 years of Black British Music.

Beyond the bassline logoBeyond the bassline panels at Local Studies

Beyond the Bassline at the British Library (26 April – 26 August 2024) is the first major exhibition to document the 500-year musical journey of African and Caribbean people in Britain.

It follows a three-year partnership between the British Library and the University of Westminster’s Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media to research, foreground and reposition six centuries of African musical contributions to the UK.

The panel exhibition is currently at our Local Studies Library on Victoria Lane in Huddersfield. We'll also be going along to the Deighton Carnival on Saturday, June 29 where we'll be showcasing our 'Museum in a Box'. What is it? Come along to find out.

Autism Resources

Did you know about our autism offer?

Kirklees Libraries are committed to making our libraries accessible to all, which is why we’ve created a social story for each of our locations. These stories are designed to give those who may be struggling with anxiety around visiting the library a step by step guide as to what to expect on visiting us, helping people to familiarise themselves with the layout beforehand as well as being able to recognise our staff in order to ask for assistance where needed.  You can find out more about our social stories by visiting our website: Locations and opening times | Kirklees Council

Within our libraries we also have a selection of autism friendly, sensory resources you can use in order to make your visit more enjoyable. These include fidget toys, stress balls, glow eggs, glitter sticks and mini beanbags. Boxes of resources are available at Batley, Dewsbury, Marsden and Rawthorpe Dalton Library and can be booked in advance for use at other libraries. Please ask at your local library for more details.
