eAudio, eBooks and the Overdrive app

Overdrive 'Switch to Libby' logo.

The OverDrive app will soon be discontinued, and you’ll need to switch to Libby, OverDrive’s newer reading app. You can still use the older OverDrive app for now, but we recommend upgrading to Libby today. It’s easy to use and full of fun features.

There is an Overview page about the transition to Libby, which includes the 'Why' this change is happening, the 'How' to switch to Libby and some useful frequently asked questions.

"Kindle Fire devices: Amazon has not yet accepted our submission of the Libby app to the Amazon Appstore so the OverDrive app will remain available for Kindle Fire users to download and access until further notice"

Questions? Need some advice? Please drop us a line at frontline.services@kirklees.gov.uk or ask at any Kirklees Library.

Holocaust Memorial Day: January 27

Holocaust Memorial Day website header

Holocaust Memorial Day is the day for everyone to remember the millions of people murdered in the Holocaust, under Nazi Persecution, and in the genocides which followed in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.

At 4pm on January 27 people across the UK will take part in a national moment for HMD by lighting candles and safely putting them in their windows.

Information about the work of the Holocaust Day Memorial Day Trust can be found at: www.hmd.org.uk

"What is abnormal is that I am normal. That I survived the Holocaust and went on to love beautiful girls, to talk, to write, to have toast and tea and live my life – that is what is abnormal." - Elie Wiesel, survivor of the Holocaust.

Richard Osman competition

Front covers of two Richard Osman books

We had two Richard Osman paperbacks to give-away to readers of this newsletter. All you had to do, well almost, was answer this question:

Which book did Richard Osman choose to take to a desert island?

The answer is: Hercule Poirot:The Complete Short Stories by Agatha Christie.

We'll shortly be in touch with the first two names (with correct answers) pulled out of our virtual hat. Thank you to everyone who took part.

Kirklees Year of Music

www.musicinkirklees.co.uk

"In 2023, everyone will be able to encounter music in welcoming and friendly spaces and places; everyone will invited to be part of our music community, and everyone will be encouraged to experiment, learn, listen and enjoy."

Kirklees Libraries will be making a noise in libraries about this. We're composing our set list and fine-tuning the programme.

Keep your ears, and eyes, open for events on the KYOM23 website (above), our Ticketsource page, in libraries and here in the newsletter.
