We are just a little proud that Ambreen Aziz is the Kirklees Council ‘Apprentice of the Year’. This award is for a young apprentice (30 or under). Ambreen’s role is Library Apprentice - Customers & Communities.
Ambreen joined Kirklees Libraries in September 2020 as one of our first two Library Apprentices. Ambreen will complete her apprenticeship shortly, has been offered a substantive post that she has accepted and can be seen and heard on our Youtube channel talking about the 'Apprentice Journey' and reviewing books, along with Hannah Armitage, our other, equally wonderful, library apprentice. Hannah has also been offered and accepted a substantive post within Kirklees Libraries.

 You Are A Reader!
To celebrate 25 years of World Book Day (Thursday, March 3) we want to help get the message out that You Are A Reader! Everyone can be a reader, whether you are tucking into a Harry Potter book thicker than your leg, or just starting your reading journey, one word at a time- we have books for you in our libraries. Never let a lack of reading confidence spoil your enjoyment of books and stories...we have audio books to listen to and share as a family or why not borrow a book with no words and "read" the pictures to tell the story you want?
To find other ways in which to get involved with, and even design a new library card for, Kirklees Libraries visit our website at: www.kirkleeslibraries.co.uk/world-book-day/
Celebrating Diversity and World Book Day
Both Libraries and the good people at World Book Day want to change lives through a love of reading and promote reading for pleasure, so what better way than to get stuck into a new book? Maybe be daring and pick one that you think you'd never normally choose! What's the worst that can happen?! That's the beauty of Libraries...you borrow a good book...give it your best shot but if it's not for you...simply return it and try another...who knows, maybe you'll discover you are a closet science fiction fan, or that you love romantic books...not a dinosaur lover...? Have you ever read a book about them...go on try something new! It's free and it's fun! World Book Day eAudio and eBook collection
Northern Ballet is coming to Dewsbury and Huddersfield Libraries to deliver a free workshop based on their new short ballet for children, Pinocchio.
Following a fun warm up, the workshop will explore the story and characters from the show and give the children the chance to try out some of the moves for themselves. Northern Ballet’s children’s ballets are created specifically for children under 8 years old to introduce them to dance and live performance. All their workshops are designed to be inclusive so everyone can join in and no previous experience is necessary.
Thursday March 3 and Friday March 4 (4.00 - 4.45pm for both workshops)

An evening in the company of author Rob Vincent, talking about 'Colne Valley: A History of a Pennine Landscape' This book is a tribute to the visual strengths of the Colne Valley’s landscape and a narrative of its development. It is inspired by the author’s experience of living for over 30 years in a house whose built form reflects the Valley’s centuries-long dual economy of domestic cloth making and small-scale farming, and whose stones were quarried from the hillside where it stands. From affection for his family home at Harts Hole grew a wider understanding, and a deeper appreciation, of the landscape as a whole. The book shares both the enthusiasm and the learning that developed during that journey.
Thursday, March 10 at 7.30pm Marsden Mechanics Hall It's free event so booking is essential: Eventbrite - An Evening with Rob Vincent
Zog and his Flying Doctor crew are making their way to the Lawrence Batley Theatre in Huddersfield for a brand-new, roar-some adventure on Sat 2 and Sun 3 April!
Zog, together with Princess Pearl and Sir Gadabout, tend to a sunburnt mermaid, a unicorn with one too many horns and a lion with the flu. However, Pearl’s uncle, the King, has other ideas about whether princesses should be doctors, and she’s soon locked up in the castle back in a crown and a silly frilly dress!
With a bit of help from some friends and half a pound of cheese, can Pearl make her uncle better and prove princesses can be doctors too?
Based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's modern take on the classic fairytale, Zog And The Flying Doctors is the perfect introduction to live shows for little children.

 Reading Friends
Volunteers, including parents and community members, support children and young people to improve their reading skills so they can achieve their potential. Learners become volunteers in schools and play a key role in their local community which in turn boosts their skills, confidence and employability. Around 700 volunteers have been trained up to support children in 70 primary schools and a number of secondary schools too. We encourage schools to have Reading Friends groups to support their own reading agenda.
