Lockdown grant (one-off top up)

All businesses that were registered for business rates before the 4th November 2020, and were legally required to close as a result of the National Lockdown from 5 January, will automatically receive a grant payment this week.

The one-off top-ups will be granted to closed businesses on a per property basis as follows:

  • £4,000 for businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 or under
  • £6,000 for businesses with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000
  • £9,000 for businesses with a rateable value of over £51,000

Additional Discretionary Funding will also be made available to support other businesses that are not eligible for this grant but are affected by the restrictions.  As soon as this becomes available guidance on the eligibility criteria and how to apply will be published online at www.kirklees.gov.uk/coronavirusbusiness   


Flooding awareness

Local businesses can report flooding, or apply for assistance following a flood, on the Kirklees Council website. 

You’ll also find helpful information on reducing the risk of flooding and the option to sign up to flood warnings.

31 January 2021 deadline for Wet-Led Pubs Christmas Support £1K grant

Pubs that predominantly serve alcohol rather than food have until 31st January 2021 to apply.

Eligible pubs will receive a £1K flat-rate grant covering the period between 2 and 29 December 2020.

EU (European union) Exit: new rules are here

The UK has completed the process of leaving the EU.  Since 1 January 2021, new rules apply that will affect your business, family and personal circumstances. 

Businesses should act now to understand the new rules, particularly those that:

  • transfer data between the UK and EU
  • have staff that live and work in the EU
  • have staff that are staying in the UK and are EU citizens
  • travel to the EU
  • import goods into the UK
  • export goods from the UK

You can keep up to date with new changes with regular Government business readiness bulletins and complete the Government’s checker tool to quickly identify the actions that your business needs to take.

31 January deadline for Local Restrictions Support Grant

Businesses that were legally forced to close due to national restrictions between 5 November and 2 December 2020 and/or since 2 December due to Tier 3 restrictions have until 31 January 2021 to submit their grant application.

Business premises forced to close will receive grants worth up to £3,000 per 28 days under the Local Restrictions Support Grant (closed) scheme.

 Check your eligibility and apply before it’s too late.
