Hello and welcome back to our Staying Healthy bulletin!
The bank holiday is ahead of us and some of you may have plans to celebrate VE Day with your household and maybe even with neighbours (but please don't forget social distancing rules, and wear sun cream - it’s going to be a hot one!).
We’ve pulled together some advice on how to enjoy VE Day and stay safe. Almost 75 years ago, people came together to celebrate the end of fighting in Europe which signified peace and unity. Tomorrow we need everyone to stay apart, but there are lots of ways that we can celebrate, and unlike 1945, there are lots of ways we can communicate too!
WWII, like this pandemic left no one untouched, everyone had to change their daily routine and do what was right for their neighbours and the nation, not just themselves. Stay at home and keep everyone safe.
Creative ways to keep your children busy
Getting creative is a great way to fill the hours spent at home with the children, but there are only so many rainbows you can paint!. If you're looking for ideas to keep busy, Save the Children have lots of ideas - from den building to pom pom making and adults can play along too!
Time to quit smoking?
Want to quit smoking? The coronavirus has brought uncertainty and huge changes to everyone’s life, and you may find yourself smoking more. It is always a good day to stop smoking and by quitting you will lessen the likelihood of developing more severe coronavirus symptoms. The NHS has a personal quit plan just for you!
Here comes the sun!
With a mini heatwave expected this bank holiday weekend, it’s important that we all remember to protect our skin and wear sun cream. Shockingly, almost a quarter of brits don’t wear sun cream in the summer! (We hope that’s not you…). This weekend, spend time in the shade between 11am and 3pm and protect your skin with sun cream and clothing.
Coronavirus and your money
Money worries during the coronavrius crisis could put added pressure on our mental wellbeing which can then affect other areas of our life. The Money Advice Service, set up by government, has free and impartial advice to help you organise your finances - from debt advice and emergency budgeting to avoiding loan sharks.
Have a great holiday weekend - stay safe and healthy, your friends at Kirklees Council
