Welcome to the latest edition of Read Kirklees From Home. You may have read the BBC news item showing that 120,000 people have joined a library in the first three weeks of lockdown.
Here in Kirklees:
- Around 600 people joined Kirklees Libraries via our online form since March 23rd.
- We have added over 7,500 copies of eBooks and eAudio to our Overdrive website in the last 30 days.
- Use of PressReader (our digital magazine and newspaper resource) has increased by around 370% compared to the same period last year.
- We have just secured free access from home to Ancestry Library, one of the world's leading Family History resources, for library members.
Read, enjoy, keep in touch and stay safe.

Octavia's Brood. Edited by Walidah Imarisha and Adrienne Maree
I just began this on Libby and it's wonderful, an antidote to hopelessness. Octavia's Brood is an anthology of modern sci fi short stories written in tribute to Octavia Butler, the iconic african american sci fi writer who said 'I was attracted to science fiction because it was so wide open. I was able to do anything and there were no walls to hem you in and there was no human condition that you were stopped from examining.' I'll be returning it soon, check it out. Erica J. Golden.
