Your Nag's Head and Holloway Update
 We’re transforming Southgate Road
After listening to feedback from almost 700 residents last year, we are now set to transform Southgate Road to make it easier for you to walk, cycle and wheel. Our plans include:
-
removing the existing mini roundabout and replacing it with a new parallel crossing for walking and cycling
-
creating around 37.5 square metres of new planting
-
widening footpaths to make it easier for everyone, especially people with disabilities, to travel around the area
-
introducing 22 new cycle parking spaces
We hope these improvements will encourage people to take up healthier and more environmentally friendly ways of travelling and make the area greener and more welcoming for residents.
Help make Nag’s Head and Holloway greener
Do you have a creative idea of how to improve or create a new green space in your local area? You can submit your ideas and help make this a reality.
From planters and rain gardens, to planting trees and creating beautiful tree pits, we can help perfect your ideas to improve your area. Successful applicants will have their project funded and created by specialists within the greenspace team. You don’t need to be an expert gardener to apply, you just need to be committed to improving and maintaining the green space and keep your plants growing.

Boasting about our brilliant bats
Did you know that bats account for a quarter of all mammals? We didn’t either until we spoke to the friendly people at the Bat Conservation Trust.
That’s why we’ve partnered up with them to teach us all about why bats are brilliant and how they form an important part of our ecosystem even in big cities, and how we can contribute to their conservation.
We’ll be meeting for a free interactive evening walk and talk around Gillespie Park on Thursday 21 March, 7-8.30pm, at Islington Ecology Centre, 191 Drayton Park, N5 1PH. All you need to do is bring a torch, some sensible shoes and warm clothes. Book now while spaces last.
Share ideas with your Local Wellbeing Network
In these sessions we’ll discuss key services that promote a healthy lifestyle for residents, the benefits our services can have on wellbeing and how they can be improved, as well as hearing from guest speakers from local organisations.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 13 March, 12.30–3pm, at Conference Room 6–9, Manor Gardens, Community Centre, N7 6LA.
 We’re better Together
The newly redeveloped Sobell Leisure Centre is hosting a range of activities for people aged 50 and over for just £2.50 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10.30am-1pm.
There’s something for everyone at their activity days from dominoes, short mat bowls, Zumba Basics and even walking football. These activities are a great way to meet local people and make friends, whilst staying healthy. So if you or someone you know may benefit from these sessions, please give them a visit at Sobell Leisure Centre, Tollington Rd, N7 7NY.
Bookings can be made on the day at reception. For more information, contact Community Sports Manager, Mikael Kiviniemi on Mikael.Kiviniemi@gll.org.
 Need a breather?
Sometimes it can be hard to just find time to take a moment to sit peacefully and reflect on the days, weeks and months we’ve had and that lie ahead.
That’s why Healing Justice LDN are running weekly Breath Circles for free every Wednesday at 6.30pm at HJL Dreamspace, 352 Holloway Road, N7 6PA.
A Breath Circle is a space for people to come together to ground and heal themselves through light stretching, breathing and meditation. The group is focused on creating a space for everyone, so why not pay them a visit and catch your breath?
Grab a cuppa with the locals
Park Cuppa takes place on the third Tuesday of the month at Islington Ecology Centre, N5 1PH, and their next meet up is on Tuesday 19 March at 10.30am.
Everyone is welcome to attend. You can reserve your slot so they have an idea of numbers, but walk ins are welcome too!
