Act now to grab £250 grant
We’re looking to give one-off grants of £250 to Islington residents who rent their home but aren't getting housing benefit or universal credit.

New plans for Sobell Leisure Centre
A fantastic new children’s soft play and improvements to the gym and squash courts could be coming to the Sobell Centre in new proposals outlined by the council and partners GLL who run Better leisure facilities.
A devastating flood destroyed the ice rink last year and led to the temporarily closure of the entire leisure centre. While some parts have since re-opened, the whole ground floor – including the trampoline park, soft play, ice rink, squash courts, and sports hall – were so severely damaged they cannot continue to be used.
We want to hear your views on our proposals which include a new “mega adventure” soft-play area, a “ninja warrior” style inflatable zone, and upgrades to the squash courts, gym, and boxing area. You can read our news article for more about our plans for the centre.
The consultation will open later this month, sign up now to be notified when it opens.
Standing against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia
Tomorrow (Wednesday 17 June) is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). Here in Islington, we stand together against all forms of hate, and that's why we're proudly flying the rainbow flag above the Town Hall.
Our partners forum+ are hosting a free online event on Wednesday 17, 1.30-2.30pm, which will explore the origin and importance of IDAHOBIT, share info about the work of forum+, and some practical ways we can all stand together in support of LGBTQ+ inclusion. You can sign up via Eventbrite now.

More bike parking to encourage cycling
As part of our commitment to make Islington cleaner and healthier we are working to provide more safe, easy-to-use, accessible cycle parking, this means residents can take up cycling more easily as a healthier and environmentally friendly way to travel.
With each lockable hangar having room for six cycles, the arrival of the 500th hangar later this month will mean there are 3,000 spaces for residents to park their bikes safely on the street. This is on top of the 2,500 spaces that are also available for free on council estates, as well as more than 2,000 Sheffield, bike bar, stands on Islington’s streets.
