£2.2million of ‘lifeline’ support for hardest hit families
We are distributing over £2million in support for those hit the hardest by the cost of living crisis. This support will help more than 4,000 low-income households who have not previously been eligible for support.
Over £1million will be used to ensure that all Islington schoolchildren eligible for free meals do not go hungry during the Christmas and Easter holidays.
Remember that we are here to help, if you have any questions or for more information call 020 7527 8222 or email heretohelp@islington.gov.uk.

Islington’s buses saved by you!
In June, major changes were proposed by Transport for London (TfL) to bus services across London which would have affected routes across Islington. The changes would have made it harder for residents to travel across the borough and made it especially difficult for disabled people and those on lower incomes.
TfL ran a consultation to get Londoners' views and we put out the call in Islington to ensure local concerns were heard. Having agreed a funding deal with central Government, TfL has announced that all the Islington bus services that had been threatened with cuts or changes have been saved.

Study shows people-friendly streets (PFS) bring better air quality
An independent study by Imperial College London (ICL) has shown the positive impact people-friendly streets have made to air quality in Islington. They looked at data from the St Peter’s, Canonbury East, and Clerkenwell Green neighbourhoods, and found that, when compared with external roads, traffic levels were significantly reduced. Similarly, the levels of nitrogen dioxide in the air have significantly dropped. Nitrogen dioxide not only contributes to the climate crisis but can lead to respiratory issues such asthma.
These findings support our decision earlier this month to make the St Peter’s and Canonbury East PFS neighbourhoods' permanent. Our aim in implementing PFS neighbourhoods is to make it easier to walk, cycle, scoot, and use buggies and wheelchairs as environmentally friendly alternatives to driving.

If you're passionate about social housing excellence, full of ideas, and have the drive and determination to help improve housing for all Islington residents, we would love to hear from you. We are looking for tenants and leaseholders to join our Housing Scrutiny Committee, which feeds back on and challenges the housing services we provide, helping to improve how we engage with residents.
Your input will help set the agenda so we can deliver fairer, better housing services. You will be asked to attend around eight evening meetings every year (attendance is paid) and to commit to a four-year term.
