This week brought the sad news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II – this country’s longest reigning monarch. Flags on Islington Town Hall have been lowered to half-mast as a mark of respect. The Queen was treasured and respected by many, and her death marks the end of an era. Many in Islington will be saddened and will want to reflect on the Queen’s years of public service.
A statement from The Mayor of Islington
The Mayor of Islington, Cllr Marian Spall made a statement, on behalf of the borough of Islington, expressing great sadness at the death of The Queen, and extending condolences to her family, friends and loved ones.
Cllr Spall said, “As Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, The Queen had a special place in countless hearts, and inspired huge respect, loyalty and affection.”

There is a Book of Condolence open at Islington Town Hall for those who wish to pay their respects. It is available for signing from 9am-5pm, Monday to Saturday.
If you’d prefer, you can sign the National Book of Condolence online, which will be kept by the Royal Household.
Proclamation of the King
King Charles III has succeeded to the throne and will be proclaimed at the Accession Council at 10am on Saturday, 10 September, in the State Apartments of St James’s Palace, Buckingham Palace has said. This will be televised.
In Islington, a local proclamation will be held at 1pm on Sunday 11 September outside Islington Town Hall. All are welcome to attend.

Islington celebrates The Queen
Islington Museum have presented a photographic exhibition to mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. The exhibition features information about The Queen's life as well as historic photography including images showing her visits to Islington.
