NHS tier 3 very high

Coronavirus cases are rising rapidly – let’s work together to keep Islington safe

Following a serious and very worrying rise in coronavirus across the capital, London has moved to Tier 3 – the highest level of restrictions – from today, Wednesday 16 December. Cases are doubling every few days and it has never been more urgent for us to work together to stop this deadly disease from spreading illness and death to the people we love. Visit the Gov.uk website for more information about Tier 3.

Islington is a very special community and we’re incredibly proud of how everyone in the borough has pulled together and done their bit to keep Islington safe throughout this ongoing crisis. We have to keep going, keep protecting each other, and make it through the winter together.

Our We are Islington helpline on 020 7527 8222 is open seven days a week, 9am-5pm, even over Christmas – please call us if you need help.

Staying safe and well

We can all help stop the virus spreading, and protect our loved ones.

Please stay at home as much as possible to help stop the virus spreading. Avoid crowded spaces, including buses and trains, if you can, as the virus spreads more easily when people mix. You can also travel or shop at less busy times, or shop online.

  • Make space – stay 2 metres apart from people who aren’t in your household or bubble - this helps stop the virus spreading between people.
  • Wash your hands - regularly and for at least 20 seconds, especially when you get home– this washes any virus off your hands and helps stop it spreading.
  • Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth to stop the virus spreading - in public places, including in shops, on public transport and at bus stops.

COVID-19 testing

Got symptoms? Get a test

If you have any of the symptoms – a high temperature, a new, continuous cough, or a loss or change to your taste or smell – start self-isolating immediately, and book your test.

Testing is quick, easy and free – Islington has two testing sites, which the council made sure were opened to help all our residents.

Getting a test is free and simple – visit nhs.uk/coronavirus or call 119.

We can support you if you have to self-isolate: call We are Islington on 020 7527 8222 to find out how you can get help with emergency food deliveries, shopping, financial support, and benefits.

Covid vaccination update

We have been working closely with NHS colleagues, to ensure the successful roll out of the Covid vaccine at a local level. The first stocks of the Pfizer BioNtech Covid-19 vaccine have been delivered to some local GP surgeries and residents are being invited to have the vaccination in priority order, starting with the over 80s.

Please don’t contact your GP - they are really busy making sure they contact the most vulnerable patients first. You will be contacted as soon as it’s your turn. Every batch of Covid vaccines undergoes stringent tests to ensure its safety, before it can be used, so please take up your invite and make sure you attend your appointments when you arrange them.

The vaccine offers us real hope for an end to this terrible pandemic, but with cases rising rapidly across London, we can’t afford to drop our guard. Please follow the guidance to protect yourselves and your family.

Jobs are available in the vaccination programme through Proud to Care North London, including a variety of paid roles, with flexible shift patterns offered.
