Good luck to Arsenal!

Good luck to Arsenal this weekend in the FA Cup final! If you are cheering on the team, please remember to #DoYourBit to prevent the spread of coronavirus and keep Islington safe - keep social distancing and think of your neighbours when it comes to noise.

Unfortunately, coronavirus has not gone away. Enjoy the match – it's on BBC1 on Saturday at 5.30pm – and cheer Arsenal on to yet another FA Cup success, but don't risk your own safety or that of your family and friends; keep social distancing, wear a face mask when you are out and stay safe.

Face masks in Islington

Wearing face masks in Islington

The Government has now made it mandatory to wear a face mask in all shops and supermarkets. This is also the case on public transport.

Either re-useable or single-use masks are acceptable. You may also use a scarf, bandana, religious garment, or hand-made cloth covering, but these must securely fit over the mouth and nose. You can even make your own following these instructions

In Finsbury Park, local community sewing groups have banded together to make more than 500 face masks for vulnerable residents during the lockdown. The community project is made up of people from all walks of life who belong to various sewing groups in the area, some with sewing skills and some without.

Why we are creating people-friendly streets

Islington’s people-friendly streets will help make it easier to walk, cycle, scoot and use buggies and wheelchairs, whilst making streets safer, more pleasant and improving our air quality.

Coronavirus has had a huge impact on us all, and life will not be the same once the crisis ends. The message from Government has been clear – that local authorities must act now in order to avoid a dangerous rise in motor vehicle traffic as we come out of lockdown, and to make space for walking, cycling and social distancing.

The council looks forward to hearing our residents’ ideas on how we can continue to improve Islington’s transport network and create people-friendly streets for us all.
