Do your bit to help keep Islington safe

I want to give a huge thank you to all of Islington for following social distancing rules - the response from residents has been fantastic so far.

But let’s not undo the hard work we’re putting in. Whilst some restrictions have started to be lifted, we all need to continue to do our bit to stop the spread of the virus.

Big crowds have been flocking to parks and green spaces to enjoy the nice weather, so ahead of the weekend my message is to you is that if you do go out, please help us all stay safe by observing these rules:

  • Follow social distancing rules and stay 2m away from others
  • Wear a face covering on public transport and in enclosed spaces like shops. Follow these instructions on how to make your own face covering
  • Follow the one in, one out system our shops are using
  • Use contactless payment where possible
  • You can meet and exercise in groups of up to six people from outside your households, but don’t gather in large groups and always remain 2m away from someone outside your household
  • You must keep your dog under close control at all times. To help, we advise that you keep your dog on a lead during busy times
  • Wash your hands regularly, especially when you get back home

If you’re worried about people ignoring social distancing rules please ring our anti-social behaviour line on 020 7527 7272 or report online

Also, if you are enjoying our parks over the weekend, please don’t leave your litter behind.

Thank you, Islington.

Cllr Richard Watts, Leader of Islington Council

Windrush Day logo

Islington remembers the Windrush generation

Windrush Day, on June 22, was an opportunity to remember the exceptional contribution of the Windrush generation, their families and descendants, and marks the arrival of the MV Empire Windrush at the Port of Tilbury, near London, on 22 June 1948.

If you missed the online talk, you can still access the range of online resources that we have put together to learn more about the Windrush generation. They give an insight into what life was like for this generation and an updated picture of the hardship people from the community have experienced in recent years under the Windrush ‘hostile environment’ policies.

Don’t fall victim to Covid-19 scams

Unfortunately some people are using the coronavirus outbreak to their own advantage by exploiting people’s fears. Stay alert to scams, in particular those involving the illegal selling of home-testing kits. Find out more about how you can get tested for coronavirus.

If someone knocks on your door, ask for ID (if they are genuine, they won’t mind) and check they are who they say they are.

If you suspect someone is scamming you or that you have been scammed, report it to Action Fraud UK on 0300 123 2040. You'll find a range of advice and information on their website.
