Bach: B minor Mass
Saturday 29 March 7.30pm Price: Adult £13, Student & Unemployed £5, Accompanied School Children £1. All Saints’ Church, Hessle, HU13 0AD
Conductor passes Baton to Son Anthony Ford, conductor of Hull Bach Choir, will miss this concert through ill health. His son, Christopher, will conduct - Hull Bach Choir has enjoyed working with him on two previous occasions. Bach’s B minor Mass is a mighty work that ranges in mood from deep sadness to great joy, from tender calm to tremendous excitement. It is one of the most taxing choral works in the repertory and features an astonishing amalgam of different styles of choral writing. It also includes some equally taxing solo work, not only for the singers but also for the orchestral soloists - in particular the violin, flute, oboe, horn and trumpet. Bach completed the work just before his death, having taken 25 years over its composition. No other great work has had such a long gestation period, but it was certainly worth waiting for.
Performing with the choir are Hull Bach Orchestra, and soloists Natalie Montakhab – soprano, Simon Ponsford – counter tenor, Jorge Colorado – tenor, and David Greco – bass.
Box office: On the door or reserved in advance by phoning Telephone number: 01482 654567.

Major Tom by Victoria Melody
Friday 28 March, 8pm
£8 (£6 concessions)
The Club House, Elm Avenue, Hull, HU8 8PZ
Victoria unknowingly discovered that her dog had prize winning potential at a charity dog show. She seized the opportunity to access the subculture of this extraordinarily exclusive member’s only club. Major Tom’s first championship show was a disaster, feeling an overpowering sense of guilt about her dog being scrutinised, Victoria decided to put herself through the same process by becoming a beauty queen. Major Tom and Victoria increasingly immersed themselves into the obsessive and confusing realm of personal scrutiny as they participated as genuine contestants and aimed to win. This one woman, one dog show will follow their story. It will reflect on the British fascination with celebrities, beauty, and winning. To complete the research Major Tom went to Crufts and Victoria at 34 and 5ft 4 competed in Mrs England 2013 beauty pageant. She currently holds the title of Mrs Brighton. Commissioned and produced by Farnham Maltings. Developed at Battersea Arts Centre, The Showroom Chichester and MAKE, Ireland. Supported by Arts Council England. Recommended for ages 14+

Jo Hellier is a Bristol based contemporary artist working with performance, installation, film and sound. She makes considered works for different public spaces, experimenting with form and narrative structure to create exchanges both personal and expansive. In developing 97 Years, Jo has worked closely with sound artist Yas Clarke, both graduated from Dartington College of Arts in 2010. Supported by Arts Council England and MAYK Bristol. Dan Greenley - Paintings
Until Sunday 30 March, 12-4pm Saturdays and Sundays, free. KAG Gallery, 26-27 Humber Street, Hull, HU1 1TH
Dan’s Paintings are absorbed in an analysis of textures and surfaces, be it the Yorkshire landscape or the skin of an orange.
Mark making is of primary importance, alongside an expressive use of colour nurtured by intuition. These points of reference recede, and the landscape itself becomes less important than the marks and textures on the canvases.
The striking images on display in this exhibition span a period of the last five years since the Artist’s leaving college and demonstrate a diverse collection of charcoal drawings, textured canvases, and bold Acrylic studies.
Dan has been a member of KAG since 2009, and studied Art at Breton Hall College, West Yorkshire. He has shown at the Hanover Gallery in Liverpool, Helmsley Art Centre and the Sledmere House Gallery. This is his first solo show.

Follow the Herring - Hull
The visual arts dimension to this project had a successful launch last week with well attended events in Princes Quay and Artlink. We're interested to hear from knitters and stitchers who'd like to be involved in Hull. Knitted herrings are already being produced by Hull knitters, but there will also be opportunities to produce other textile and craft based work for exhibition in June.
City Arts are co-producing this collaborative theatre and visual arts project, on the Hull leg of its east coast tour. The touring co-production between The Customs House Arts Centre and Guild of Lillian's Theatre Company (supported by Arts Council England's strategic touring fund) aims to engage coastal communities on the East coast in the arts through singing, performing and knitting - on a fishy theme around Herring Girls.
Hull participants have an opportunity to join in singing, knitting, crafting, and story telling activity. The project culminates in a production of 'Get Up And Tie Your Fingers' at Hull Truck Theatre, and exhibitions at Artlink and in the City Centre with the exciting life sized knitted boat which will sail into an exhibition at Holy Trinity Church in June.
Further information giving details about local workshop opportunities, and ways for groups and individuals to get involved will be released soon via the Artlink website.
If you would like to Follow the Herring in Hull, please contact cityartsenquiries@hullcc.gov.uk to register your interest.
Visit the Hull City Council website to find out further information about the project and its background, and to download a pattern to knit your own Herring.
