Makerspace Hull is an arts and technology workspace at Hull Central Library. We've got state-of-the-art manual, digital and electronic equipment, with skilled staff providing support and workshops. We're a self-led space where you can learn new skills or rediscover old ones with help from our team.

Join us for a tour of the beautiful James Reckitt Reading Room at Hull Central Library as part of Heritage Open Days.
Hull Central Library opened in 1901. The James Reckitt Reading Room features “beautiful fittings of mahogany inlaid with various colours and expensive woods”. Now home to the Art & Music Stacks, it also houses the Hull Libraries' Quaker Collection, some of which dates from the 17th century, and the Napoleon Collection. Items from both collections will be on display.

Music is an important part of Hull’s history but is it also an important part of our future? Hull is looking to apply to become a UNESCO Creative City of Music and residents are being asked to contribute their thoughts, memories and experiences of the city’s music offer.
All completed surveys will be entered into a prize draw to win 2 tickets to The Phantoms at Hull City Hall on 25 September 2026.

The music library at Hull Central Library is a place for both music lovers and musicians. We have an electric piano, a drum kit and computers with composition and recording software for customers to use.

Our Vocal Score and Orchestral music sets can be borrowed by choirs, orchestras, educational establishments, operatic societies and individuals for performance or study purposes.

In 1066 we came – NOW WE ARE BACK! A collection of ceramics from renowned sculptor and ceramicist Stewart Taylor. Entirely hand made crank stoneware, each piece is totally unique.

If you can’t get to a library due to ill-health why not let the library come to you. We carefully select books to read or listen to and deliver them direct to your door. Whether you’re young or old, live in your own home or in residential accommodation, this free service is available to you.

Don't forget - all of our libraries will be closed on Monday 31 August for the Bank Holiday - but we are always open online!
