Summer is officially here, and it's time to turn up the volume on reading with this year's Summer Reading Challenge: Read to the Beat. From books and brilliant events to community stories and creative activities, there's always plenty to sing and dance about at Hull Libraries.
So, whether you're reading in the sunshine, discovering your next favourite book, or joining us for one of our summer events, we're delighted you're here!

We had the BEST time at the book awards last week! Children from schools across Hull attended the KS2 and KS3 award ceremonies at Malarkey Park and chose their favourite book in a live vote! Our 2026 winners are:
- KS2: Speedwheels 3000: The Race Against Crime - Jenny Pearson
- KS3: Gloam - Jack Mackay
- Picture Book: A Million Chameleons - Rachel Morrisroe and Aysha Awwad

The Makerspace at Hull Central Library provides a space for anyone to explore their creativity in arts, science, technology and engineering - independently or collaboratively. We've got state-of-the-art equipment, skilled staff to offer support and advice, and a variety of creative workshops.
Membership
Makerspace membership is available as a £5 day pass, or as a monthly membership at just £15. Available to anyone aged 16+
Free Advice
You can book a free 1 hour appointment with us for support with:
- Creative software (incl. Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Z Brush 3D modelling)
- An induction on any of our technical equipment (incl. laser cutter, 3D printer, kiln, sewing machine)
- Advice on a bespoke project
Mini Makerspaces
We're making good progress on our Mini Makerspaces at Fred Moore and Greenwood Libraries. Watch this space for our opening dates!

Borrow books from your local library to help manage your health and wellbeing.
Reading Well is a national Books on Prescription programme from The Reading Agency and Libraries Connected, available through public libraries across England and Wales. There are five Reading Well collections covering mental health, families, children, teens and dementia.

Did you know that East Park Library is a dog friendly library? You are welcome to bring your clean, trained and well-behaved dogs into the main adult’s library. Pop along with your pooch - we love meeting your fabulous furry friends!

We have one of the most comprehensive collections of printed music in the country, with over 2,000 titles in the Vocal Score Collection and more than 800 titles in the Orchestral Collection.
If we don’t have the set you require and you rehearse in Hull we will attempt to obtain it for you from another library via the interlibrary loan system.

If you can’t get to a library due to ill-health why not let the library come to you. We carefully select books to read or listen to and deliver them direct to your door. Whether you’re young or old, live in your own home or in residential accommodation, this free service is available to you.
