We have a blooming marvellous month ahead at Hull Libraries! We’re busy little bees preparing for our annual children’s literature festival, our ‘Great Gardening Day’ and a whole host of other exciting events to inspire and entertain you!

Join us at The Big Malarkey Festival in East Park for our annual celebration of children's literature!
This year our festival theme is ‘What If….?’ and we’ll be celebrating stories, animals, discoveries, scientists and so much more! We’re welcoming lots of fabulous authors, artists, dancers, illustrators, musicians and theatre shows to the festival including:
Emma Carroll, Helen Rutter, Mike Barfield, Chris Mould, Circo Rum Ba Ba, One Tenth Human, Memorabubble, The Herd, Concerteenies, Arctic Explorer Dr Huw Lewis Jones, Drake Music and INIT Creative.
Our festival brochures are out and about in libraries and community locations near you and tickets will be on sale from Sunday 1 June at 12pm - don't miss out on an unforgettable weekend of fun, learning, and community spirit!
There’s even a chance to be part of the festival this year by joining the Malarkey Choir project!
We're enjoying touring the schools of Hull with this year's shortlisted authors in the run up to the Hull Children's Book Award 2025. We can't wait to hear who the children will vote for in our award ceremonies on Tuesday 24 (KS2) & Wednesday 25 June (KS3) at Malarkey Park!

Reading Well supports you to understand and manage your health and wellbeing using helpful reading.
These books are all recommended by health experts, as well as people with lived experience of the conditions and topics covered and their relatives and carers. You can be recommended a title by a health professional, or you can borrow the books from our collection.

The music library at Hull Central Library is a place for both music lovers and musicians. We have 2 electric pianos, a drum kit and computers in private booths with composition and recording software for customers to use.
We have one of the most comprehensive collections of printed music in the country. Our Vocal Score and Orchestral sets can be borrowed by choirs, orchestras, educational establishments, operatic societies and individuals for performance or study purposes.

A brand new gallery with a difference has opened in the HU3 neighbourhood of Hull. The HuFree Gallery, located on the top floor of Western Library, will work with local residents, businesses and creatives to programme photographic, film and print exhibitions and activities, right at the heart of the community.
