Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grants is returning
ACE will be open again for applications on Wednesday 22 July, with a budget of £59.8 million available until April 2021.
After a brief closure of the fund in the immediate aftermath of the Covid-19 crisis, they are pleased to say that National Lottery Project Grants will be back from 22 July.
They're making improvements to make the fund more responsive to the needs of smaller independent organisations and individual practitioners during Covid-19.
They have prioritised reopening this programme to help fund independent organisations, creative practitioners and freelancers as quickly as possible.
They'll publish updated guidance for the programme by mid-July.
Check out their website for more information.
Hull City Council Business Support Grants
As a direct result of reporting on the Arts Development survey into the impact of Covid-19 on the arts locally, Business Support grants have been made available to individual freelancers and smaller businesses/organisations.
To be eligible applicants/businesses must be based in the city, be able to the demonstrate a financial impact of Covid-19 on their practice or business though loss of contracts, engagements, access to market or self-employed income from the creative economy. This might include all art form practices, graphic design, educational/ community workshop provision and professional services related to the performing arts.
Businesses must have been trading on and before 11 March 2020.
Check out their website for more information.
Enquiries about these grants should in the first instance be made to the Council's Business Support Team via email: business.support@hullcc.gov.uk . They have been very helpful in addressing individual queries so far.
The forms were created with businesses in mind, so the language may feel a bit alien to artists, however, we have been assured that they will consider applications from artists and freelancers, and are consulting with Arts Development before making final decisions on eligibility.
Be aware you have one hour to complete the form and please be aware there is no save function as you progress.
We suggest you prepare your narrative answers in advance on a separate document so that you can cut and paste into the form to save time. You will be asked about the nature of your business, and also about work you have lost as a result of Covid-19, and you will be asked to provide a projection of reduced income based on previous year's trading.
There is a section around fixed property related costs - we acknowledge that most freelance artists will work from home. So don't be put off by that part of the form, we will advocate on that basis when consulted about eligibility. Each application is considered individually on its merits.

Chancellor Announces £1.57 Billion for Arts, Culture and Heritage Institutions
Arts, culture and heritage industries across the UK that have been severely impacted during the coronavirus pandemic are to be supported by a £1.57 billion government rescue package.
Emergency grants and loans will soon be available to help thousands of organisations across a range of sectors, including theatres and performing arts companies, heritage sites, museums, galleries, live music venues and independent cinemas.
The funding is intended to help these organisations stay afloat while they remain closed to the public. Funding to restart paused construction projects will also be provided, helping to support employment, including freelancers working in these sectors. The package includes:
£1.15 billion for national cultural organisations in England, delivered through a combination of grants and loans. This will be made up of £270 million of repayable finance and £880 million of grants. £100 million of targeted support for national cultural institutions in England and the English Heritage Trust. £120 million of capital investment to restart construction on cultural infrastructure and for heritage construction projects in England which were halted due to the coronavirus outbreak.
An additional £188 million for the devolved administrations in Northern Ireland (£33 million), Scotland (£97 million) and Wales (£59 million).
The Government says the loans will be issued on ‘generous terms’, tailored for cultural institutions to ensure they are affordable. Decisions on funding will be made working alongside independent figures from the arts and culture sector, including Arts Council England, Historic England, the National Lottery Heritage Fund and the British Film Institute (BFI).
