Thank You For Doing Nothing Tour - Silent Uproar

Silent Uproar are hitting the road to bring you 'Thank you for nothing" by Josh Overton, a new comedy musical about climate change and the companies that profit from it.

“Set 70 years in the future so-called “global warming” has apparently affected most of Britannia’s drinking water – if you want to believe the opinions of 99% of experts and their so-called “science”. But fear not; our hero, and propaganda expert for the Big Water Corporations, Molly Pazgan is here to tell you that everything is fine.”

Thank You For Doing Nothing is a provocative sci-fi musical that sings, dances and lies about how we should all keep believing the people* telling us climate change isn’t real and that they haven’t been misleading the public.

*These are the same people/companies brought you previous hits such as: “cigarettes don’t cause lung cancer”, “don’t worry about the ozone”, and “is asbestos really that bad?”

With music by James Frewer, design by Lizzie Leach and movement by Jon Beney, they've lined up a stellar creative team for their UK tour.

They will be touring the country from April - June with more information on their website.

'Thank You For Doing Nothing' is being produced with the support of Arts Council England, Hull City Council & The Marlowe Theatre (Roar).

Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival 2020 - New World Horizons

Friday 29 – Sunday 31 May, various venues in Beverley

The Festival are delighted to announce the programme for the Beverley & East Riding Early Music Festival 2020, an annual celebration set against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful towns in the UK.
This year’s theme is ‘New World Horizons’, celebrating the 400th anniversary of one of history’s most important events when the Mayflower set sail from these shores, transporting pilgrims in search of a better life.

The theme is of great historical significance to the East Riding of Yorkshire, as only 18 years later another group of pilgrims from the village of Rowley, near Beverley, set sail for America. Led by the Revd Ezekiel Rogers, rector of Rowley, they settled in Massachusetts and founded the town of Rowley, near Boston. This year’s programme includes an illustrated talk revealing the history behind this remarkable event, as depicted in stained glass at St Peter’s Church, Rowley.
This year’s festival celebrates their music and lives, with artists and performers from the UK and beyond, including an appearance by Stile Antico, who begin their ‘Mayflower400’ UK tour in Beverley.

Throughout the weekend, artists and performers from the UK and beyond will be joining us for an exciting line-up of concerts, workshops, walks and talks in Beverley’s stunning churches and on its historic streets.

Check out their website for more information.

Exciting new era for Humber Street venue

The venue formerly known as Fruit will open its doors soon, operated by the team behind the Humber Street Sesh.

“Social” on Humber Street in Hull’s Fruit Market will reflect the eclectic, spontaneous programming of its predecessor, with live and visual performance at its core. It will be operated by Sesh Events UK, which runs the hugely popular annual Humber Street Sesh grassroots music festival, as well as The Sesh weekly music nights and Made
in Hull, Trinity Live and Hull City Sesh events. A licence application has been submitted for the newly refurbished music and arts venue and planning is now underway for it to re-open with an exciting
programme by April.

The opening of Social will complete the vibrant, creative enterprises housed within 61-63 Humber Street, which has undergone a £1.2m revamp by the Fruit Market LLP, the joint venture between Wykeland Beal and Hull City Council, to create a thriving cultural hub.

The building is also now home to Juice Studios, a co-working community of artists’ studios located on the first floor; Label Worx on the second floor, providing digital music services for independent record labels; and indie art shop, Form Shop & Studio, next to the new venue on the ground floor.

The Sesh Events UK team says the venue will be “a modern take on the old social club. It will embrace all, with a wide programme of entertainment and be a great place to hang out and socialise”.

It marks a return to the venue for Sesh Events UK Director Dave Mays, who founded Fruit nine years ago and operated it until the venue closed to allow the revamp to take place.

Check out their website for more information.

BBC Upload

BBC Radio Humberside is involved in a new pan-BBC initiative designed to show off your creative talent!

Whether it’s as a singer or as a ‘creative’ in some other field, BBC Upload is an open invitation for you to send your work to the BBC, in the hope that it can be featured in their new show.

Upload on BBC Radio Humberside will normally be broadcast on a Tuesday evening, 9 til 10pm – with another chance to enjoy (the BBC does do repeats!) on a Sunday teatime.

And what can you Upload? Phil White, the producer in charge of Upload locally, says that singing would be very welcome (either as part of a choir or as a solo singer songwriter) other musicians (kazoo orchestras? Banjo ensembles?), bloggers, vloggers, reviewers, spoken word poets, writers….in fact, Phil says ‘if you can create it, you can Upload it!’

Already the signs are that creative folk across the area are getting involved in the new initiative and if you’d like to submit something for consideration, go to bbc.co.uk/upload. It’s simple to Upload – you can Upload as often as you like – and it’s free.

Phil says ‘if you can send an email with an attachment, you’ll have no problem with Upload and I look forward to hearing from you really soon’.

Earth 2050 Open Exhibition - Call for Artists

Venue - Hull History Centre, Hull, HU2 8BG

Calling all citizens of Earth - show us your vision. What will our planet look like in the near future? Will we have plastic-filled oceans and burning continents? Or will we all be living in green cities in disease-free harmony? In these uncertain times, imagination runs free… The University of Hull's Energy and Environment Institute (EEI) and Doctoral College, in partnership with Pint of Science are hosting an art exhibition to highlight the environmental issues facing our society. This includes potential threats to the environment/civilisation, changes currently happening and technology which might contribute to shaping our future.

The partners are making an open call for anyone to submit a photo or work of art (in any medium) that meets the theme: “Earth2050: What will our world look like in 30 years?”

Submission is via www.Earth2050.co.uk by 15 April 2020. 100 submissions will be chosen and exhibited at Hull History Centre (HHC) from the 29 April to 2 May 2020. A panel of judges will choose an exhibition winner and a runner up whom will be presented with their prizes at an evening event at HHC on 1 May. The exhibition will also include work from professional artists Dan Lewis and Kelly Stanford who will showcase their work along the same theme as the competition.

For more information and to submit your entry visit the Earth2050 website http://www.Earth2050.co.uk

Submission deadline 15 April 2020
