Hummel succeeded Haydn as Kapellmeister to Prince Esterhazy, although he refused to take the title formally until Haydn’s death. He was also a friend of Beethoven and was one of the foremost pianists of his day. His works are only now being rediscovered, and his settings of the Mass were worthy successors of Haydn’s great series. This will be the Fiftieth Anniversary of conductor Antony Ford's first concert with Hull Bach Choir. The concert also features Schubert’s great E flat Mass, one of his last works.
