Young people from Hull and Yorkshire will be sharing their latest street and contemporary dance work. The companies involved are Hull Dance Youth Company, Ampleforth College, Hull KR Dance Academy, Expressions Dance Company, Astra Youth Centre, LWHS Dance Company, Hull College, Space, East Riding County Company, Ainthorpe Youth Centre, Northern Trilogy, Dance United Dance Company, NYDCHull. Some of the companies are also applying to represent the region at the regional platform "Fresh" in March at York Theatre Royal.
Sing Like a Bloke - workshop

Join
Chris Samuel and explore the blokey side of your voice, in this one day singing workshop for male voices. You may learn to sob like a man, toast like a
Georgian, or march like a Visigoth, as well as having fun.
Led by Chris Samuel – pioneer of
alternative Men’s Singing movement, member of The
Spooky Men's Chorale, leader of The
Magnificent AK47 and mixed voice Community Choirs in Wiltshire and instigator-in-chief of Blokefest. Regardless
of your previous experience he’ll get you singing in glorious harmony in two
shakes of a mastodon's tail.
All songs will be taught be
ear. No need to read music, and no
previous experience necessary – just a willingness to join in and have fun. The workshop is for male voices,
under 18s with changed voices must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Places are limited so pre booking is essential.
Part of the Council’s Singing
City initiative funded by Arts Council England and Hull City Council, the
workshop is aimed at getting more men in Hull involved in group singing.

The Culture – A Farce in Two Acts
26 January to 17 February
New comedy by award-winning playwright James Graham, Inspired
by Hull’s year as UK City of Culture, it takes audiences behind the scenes of
what has been an astonishing 12 months for the city. The cast of the show have
visited the Hull 2017 offices to meet the real team, and they’ve borrowed
office furniture and branding to make the set look as authentic as possible.

Hull Amnesty Group is delighted to welcome back the Meridiem Duo for its annual concert in aid of Amnesty International. After its world premiere sell-out success with 6,000
Pipes! Hull Philharmonic Orchestra is ready play it again. The composer, Sir
Karl Jenkins, and the orchestra received a rapturous ovation after the City
Hall performance last year, which was later broadcast on Classic FM.
Sir Karl, who is the world's most performed living
composer, returns to the city for the encore.
The orchestra commissioned 6000 Pipes from Sir Karl, who
is the world's most performed living composer, and financed it with support
from Hull 2017. He wrote it in
celebration of Hull City Hall and its famous organ, completed by local firm
Forster & Andrews in 1911.

find a young soloist for Pie Jesu
Hull Choral
Union is looking for a young soprano soloist to sing ‘Pie Jesu’ in Hull Minster on
24 March 2018. This will be part of the well-loved classic choral masterpiece Fauré
Requiem.
We are looking
for:
a girl aged from
7 -18
or a boy with
unchanged voice aged 7-14
on 1 March 2018.
Contestants are
asked to bring a song they’d like to sing and be able to sing all or part of
Fauré ’s ‘Pie Jesu’. The music can be

Square Peg Bursary
The Square Peg Bursary is intended to provide an open-submission opportunity for a disabled artist to create new work for exhibition which they may otherwise be unable to realise.
A shortlist from the submissions will be drawn up by a panel with personal and professional experience in art and disability including artists, curators and critics. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to interview before the selection of the final artist, for which communication and/or transportation support can be provided.
The bursary is £3,500 for the selected artist’s time and materials/resources for the work/s to be created. Additional finance is available for communications and transportation support for the selected artist during the production process as well as for the realisation of the final exhibition.
The closing date for submissions is Friday 16 February 2018 at 5pm.
Interested artists should submit their outline proposal for the bursary opportunity along with details on their artistic development and supporting information via the portal on CuratorSpace here.

Artlink has organised a free training day covering matters relating to diversity which will be delivered by specialist partners. This training is open to anyone with an interest in these areas but is particularly aimed at people working in the arts and the third sector.
The day is split into two halves, with the morning delivered by MesMac and the afternoon by Pyramid of Arts. With a lunch break from 12 - 1pm. Hot drinks will be provided but you should bring your own lunch.
Trans Matters: Moving from Awareness to Allyship (MesMac) A look at the barriers faced by Trans people in everyday life and the consequences of these barriers. We explore subjects such as pronouns, visibility and aspects of the law. This is a group-led experiential session with lots of opportunity to discuss and ask questions. Questioning how we can start to break down these barriers and ask ourselves “what can you pledge to do as a Trans ally?”
Who Has The Power? (Pyramid of Arts)
Leeds-based Pyramid of Arts have run arts groups for people with learning disabilities for 28 years. More recently they have begun to run ‘Development Teams’ where one artist with learning disabilities & one without collaborate. Saturday Sing for vocal harmony sessions
Free
your voice and explore joyful harmony singing for pure enjoyment in the latest series of workshops.
Singing
various material the emphasis of this group is on having fun and exploring
voices in harmony, while creating beautiful music together. Led by experienced
local community choir leader Clare Drury, you will sing material from contemporary,
folk, and world music. All songs are
taught by ear, so there’s no need to read music, nor to have any previous
singing experience. All you need is a desire to free your voice, and a
willingness to join in with others in this friendly group.

opportunities with visiting composer James Redwood. This series of three training days is
available as part of the PRSF New Music Biennial Composer Residency programme.

More singing for Blokes, Chaps and Other Men
A
series of regular a capella singing workshops for male voices launches in the New Year.
Building on the hugely successful singing workshop led by UK member of the
Spooky Men’s Chorale - Dominic Stichbury, in November, men can now take part in
fortnightly sessions, led by local choral leaders Charles Huckvale and Laurence Rugg.
As part of a Council project to encourage more male singers to take part in
group singing in Hull, the sessions will take place between 7.30 - 9pm on:
Thursday 8 and 22 February and 22 March at Danish Church, Ferensway, Hull,
All parts will be taught by ear in an inclusive and welcoming way and no
experience is necessary. The emphasis is on having fun.
Men are
under-represented in singing groups nationally, including in Hull. These sessions
are part of an outreach programme and part of the Council’s ‘Singing City’
initiative. Singing is good for your health and well-being.
No
booking is needed and it is free to take part. Simply turn up and have
fun.
