25,000 free tickets available for Hull 2017 fireworks display
25,000 free tickets will be available for the fireworks display
on the opening day of 'Made in Hull', the major event that launches Hull UK
City of Culture 2017, which gets underway on Sunday 1 January. The display will
take place over the Humber at 8:17pm – 20:17 - following Made in Hull, which is
a spectacular multimedia journey into 70 years of Hull's history, staged across
the city centre and curated by the Hull-born, award-winning documentary
filmmaker Sean McAllister. Tickets for the fireworks display are being released
in two batches, the first 12,500 will be released on Wednesday 2 November at
8am, the second batch will be released on Saturday 5 November at 10am.
People will be able to apply for tickets from those times via the website click here
 Public realm update
The work is continuing in multiple areas across the city in accordance with the programmed completion dates; this will mean most areas will be complete by December 2016, with Beverley Gate and some side streets complete by March 2017.
In addition, plans to create a new grand entrance into Queen’s Gardens
from the Rose Bowl, originally scheduled to begin 2018, will also be brought
forward for completion in March 2017.

Ferensway Crossing
Single lane closures along Ferensway will stay in place as the work progresses to move, re-align and widen the pedestrian crossing facility. The operation of the new facility will be coordinated with the adjacent traffic signal junction to improve safety and traffic flow.
Carr Lane
Tree pits are being installed along Carr Lane and these will be ready for planting with mature trees towards the end of November.

 Trinity Square
Four of the eight mirror pools have been installed in Trinity Square and the remainder will be finished in November.
Humber Dock Street, Humber Street & Pier Street Humber Street sandstone paving and refurbished cobbles are continuing to be laid to the footways and carriageway. New businesses Tapasya and Butler Whites have opened towards the junction of Humber Dock Street and their customers are already enjoying the new paving that has been laid in the area.

 Solar Gate
Plans for a bespoke timepiece sculpture in Queens Gardens were submitted for planning approval on 14 October.
If approved at planning Solar Gate would not only be
a focal point within the city centre park, but also act as a sundial,
highlighting key dates in the city's history that will be placed as discs of
etched stainless steel and integrated with york stone paving earmarked for the
area.
Solar Gate would also form part of the renovation of Queens Gardens, which will
include a new grand central entrance through from the Rose Bowl. Work is
scheduled to begin prior to Christmas, with completion planned in spring 2017.
All other work to transform Queen's Gardens will begin in 2018 as part of the
legacy programme.

Ferens Art Gallery
The
Ferens Art Gallery £4.5 million refurbishment project is well underway and will be complete in November ready for the art installation prior to the official opening in January 2017. Significant progress is being made across
the whole building, key areas of development include the café extension, roof
light replacement and basement lighting.
It has recently been announced Queen Victoria's
spectacular jewel cabinet along with a number of priceless paintings and
artefacts from the Royal Collection are to be loaned to the Ferens
Art Gallery in 2017 from the Royal Collection and will reside at the gallery for five
years.

 Hull New Theatre
Excellent progress is being made on the site and the project is on track to re-open late summer 2017. The extension work is taking shape
with 530 metres of domestic water and heating installed, 60 tonnes of steelwork
erected to the new fly tower structure and 519m3 of concrete used in the
foundations to date.
Internal stairs between the new extension and the existing building have
been installed and mechanical and electrical installations are continuing to
the ground and first floor of the new extension.

 University Technical College (UTC)
Leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Stephen Brady, Alan Johnson MP for Hull West and Hessle and the College Principal Sarah Pashley gathered
at an event on the 30 September to mark one year until the opening of the new Ron
Dearing University Technical College.
Sponsors,
partners and building contractors joined the initial visit to the site of Hull’s first
University Technical College, celebrating the
significant progress of the project and signing the steel with good luck messages.
In partnership with Esteem Consortium the Sewell
Group is progressing the development on behalf of Hull City Council.
With steelworks in the north block almost complete, Sewell's will then move on to the
south block and new conference building linking the two blocks together.

 Trinity Indoor Market open for business while stalls relocate to the mall area
Work will soon begin on the £1.6m
refurbishment of Trinity Indoor Market with the Trinity House Lane entrance now closed.
Existing stalls from the food
hall have already moved to the mall area and shoppers are being
encouraged to use the entrances at Lowgate and Hepworth’s Arcade for the
duration of the project. New signage directing people to the alternative
entrances has been installed around the market and arcade.
Market customers are also being
offered the chance to win a hamper of Trinity Market goodies as a thank you for
their support during the project. Customers currently shopping at the market
are given a postcard which they simply present at the stall’s new locations within the mall area to
be automatically entered into a draw.

Ennerdale closed cycle track gets the go ahead
British Cycling has given the go-ahead for the city’s first purpose-built closed road circuit, which will be the only cycling facility of this type in East Yorkshire. The decision was confirmed by British Cycling on Friday 30 September.
A successful funding bid from Hull City Council and Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd (HCAL) now means the 1km closed road circuit, at land adjacent to Ennerdale Leisure Centre in north Hull can now come to fruition, improving access to cycling for all levels. The circuit will be available for use by local cycling clubs and the wider public of all ages and abilities, providing a safe, traffic-free environment for cyclists to learn, train and compete.

Woodford closes its doors for exciting makeover
Woodford
Leisure Centre has now closed for a multi-million pound refurbishment and
extension. The works will include a brand new 25 metre six-lane swimming
pool and learner pool, as well as improved changing facilities.
In addition
to the above plans also include a new sauna and steam facilities, a café located at the new
entrance and enhanced parking. The installation of new environmental
technologies will also help to reduce longer term operating costs.
During
the closure, users are being asked to take advantage of alternative provision at Costello
Stadium, East Hull Baths and Beverley Road Baths.
