Hull Truck Youth Theatre - The Hunt

Saturday 29 August, 12pm and 3pm
Burton Constable Hall
The performance is for the hall’s free Family Fun Day

Hull Truck Youth Theatre bring the 1800s alive at Burton Constable Hall

The Hunt has been specially written for the occasion by playwright and performance poet Henry Raby, who works regularly with Youth Theatres around Yorkshire. The site-specific play satirises life in the 19th Century when the hall’s stables would have been in their prime. Henry has taken inspiration from the slapstick style of popular children’s TV programme Horrible Histories, as well as a hearty dose of Blackadder. The show is directed by Hull Truck Theatre’s Youth Theatre Director Tom Bellerby.

Making It... Dancey
Wednesday 2 September, 7-9pm, free

Room D175, Dean Clough Mills, Halifax, HX3 5AX

Have you ever wondered how choreographers create and put movement together?  Well, it is just like sculptors put a sculpture together, but with bodies.  This is a choreographic workshop for people without any dance training or experience, but if you do have experience come along as well.  As a participant you will move to whichever extent you wish/can: you can remain sat on a chair and work with your arms and torso, or you can climb the walls.  This session will be run by choreographer Rita Marcalo.

Making it is a monthly night run by IOU where artists, creatives and makers of any discipline can come together for experimentation, exchange of ideas, networking and skills sharing opportunities at IOU Studio.  IOU is looking for makers to facilitate sessions. If you would like more information or would like to propose a Making it then contact IOU by email or phone 01422 369217

The Quiet Compere - poetry evening

Friday 4 September, 7.30pm
£4 advance / £5 otd Venue : Union Mash Up
24 Princes Ave.Hull,HU5 3QA

Sarah L Dixon runs regular Quiet Compere events in Manchester. She hosted a medical-themed poetry event at Cheltenham Poetry Festival in 2014. Sarah is presently touring the usual Quiet Compere format (ten poets x ten minutes each) nationally, after a successful tour of the North in 2014. Quiet Compere events enlist great established poets and accomplished poets newer to the scene. The Quiet Compere introduces them with little fanfare so the poems (and not the poet’s track record) tell you all you need to know.

The Quiet Compere Tour is ‘Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England’ and Hull City Council.

The poets:

Johanna Boal, Bernie Cullen, Robert Eunson, Miki Higgins, Jim Higo
Sue Lozynskyj, Wendy Pratt, Carol Robson, Catherine Scott, Alyx Tamminen

Hull Truck Theatre currently run ticketed school holiday activities, including workshops with young people aged 8 – 14 to develop their own ideas into performances over one week. Funding and opportunities

LGBT Choir development opportunity

Arts Development are working with Hull Truck Theatre and the LGBT Community to develop a choir to contribute to Big Girls Blouse show on Saturday 26 September.  The show requires a community choir for the finishing number and we thought it would be a good idea to use this as an opportunity to pilot a LGBT choir.  Arts Development would like to consider the feasibility of establishing a LGBT choir in the longer term, as part of our Singing City initiative, and this looks like an ideal opportunity to test the waters.

All singers would need to be available for rehearsals at Hull Truck Theatre on:  Wed evening 23 Sept, Fri evening 25 Sept, and from 3.30pm on Sat 26 Sept and into the evening for the show.

To register your interest please e-mail:  lgbt@andytrain.co.uk  Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
