UK REACH applications for authorisation: publication of final opinions

HSE has published final opinions on the following applications for authorisation:

HSE sent the final opinion to the Appropriate Authorities for all the applications outlined on 17 September 2025. 

  • Reference: AFA058-01

    Applicant: PPG Industries (UK) Ltd
    Substance: Potassium hydroxyoctaoxodizincate dichromate 
    Use: Use of wash primers containing potassium hydroxyoctaoxodizincate dichromate in aerospace and defence industry and its supply chains.

  • Reference: AFA060-01

    Applicants: Cytec Engineered Materials Ltd in its legal capacity as Only Representative of Cytec Industries Inc., and Wesco Aircraft EMEA Ltd
    Substance: Strontium chromate 
    Use: Use of bonding primers containing strontium chromate in aerospace and defence industry and its supply chains.

  • Reference: AFA062-01

    Applicants: 1) Cytec Engineered Materials GmbH in its legal capacity as Only Representative of Cytec Industries Inc, 2) Indestructible Paint Ltd, 3) PPG Industries (UK) Ltd, 4) Wesco Aircraft EMEA Ltd
    Substances: Strontium chromate, Potassium hydroxyoctaoxodizincate dichromate 
    Use: Use of primer products other than wash or bonding primers containing strontium chromate and/or potassium hydroxyoctaoxodizincate dichromate in aerospace and defence industry and its supply chains


HSE publishes a UK REACH technical report

HSE, as the Agency for UK REACH, has published a technical report on formaldehyde in indoor air environments in Great Britain.

The development and drafting of this technical report has been a joint project involving HSE and UK Health Security Agency. The reports summarises the hazard, exposure, use and risk information for the substance formaldehyde.

Risks to workers exposed in occupational settings were out of scope, as were risks from exposure to formaldehyde outdoors and risks to the environment.
