Pesticides ebulletin

Issued: 5 September 2025

This ebulletin contains information relating to plant protection products (PPPs) in Great Britain (GB)

Expiry of ethylene and citronella oil approvals in GB

The approvals of the following active substances: ethylene and plant oil - citronella oil were not supported for renewal in GB and expired on 31 August 2025.

The statutory approvals register has been updated to reflect these changes.

The expiry of these approvals will impact PPPs containing the active substances listed above. Grace periods have been set allowing:

  • 6 months for sale and distribution (28 February 2026)
  • a further 12 months for storage, disposal and use of existing stocks (28 February 2027)

Withdrawal Notices will be updated on the pesticides register.

The expiry of these approvals has no immediate impact on the GB maximum residue levels (GB MRLs) which will remain in force unless HSE decides to take specific regulatory action; no such action is currently planned, but GB MRLs may be reviewed at any time based on a priority of protecting UK consumers.

For MRLs, please see the GB MRL Statutory Register.
