Aches, pains, strains and stress
The connection between physical and mental health.
Have you ever thought about the impact that serious aches, pains and strains have on mental health?
Most work-related ill health stems from stress, depression, anxiety and musculoskeletal disorders. Workplace factors such as excessive pressure, demanding workloads and insufficient breaks can negatively impact both mental and physical health.
Talk to your workers and colleagues to find out if this is an issue for them. Problems might arise from manual handling tasks, their workstation set up, or extended periods at a computer without breaks.
Support Mental Health Awareness Week: 12 to 18 May
Use this week to promote the Working Minds campaign and implement or revisit the '5Rs of Working Minds', wherever you work:
- Reach out and have conversations
- Recognise the signs and causes of stress
- Respond to risks by agreeing action points
- Reflect on the actions taken – have things improved?
- make it Routine to check in regularly and review how things are going
Remember: preventing work-related stress, depression and anxiety isn’t just a legal requirement, it benefits your business and is the right thing to do by your workers.
