HSE celebrated the milestone of 50 years on 1 January 2025.
Working together with local authorities, HSE has played a central role in reducing workplace death and injury, helping Great Britain become one of the safest places in the world to work.
In 1974, 651 workers were killed at work. HSE’s latest annual statistics for 2023 to 2024 show that number has reduced to 138.

Join the nation's biggest mental health conversation next month.
Time to Talk Day is an awareness day held each February, and it's one of the many opportunities through the year to start a conversation about mental health.
Anyone can experience mental health problems at some point in life. Anxiety and depression are the most common and responsible for over half of all ill-health at work.
It’s important to build supportive relationships where people feel comfortable to talk about any challenges they’re experiencing. Every conversation matters, whether its a coffee catch-up with the whole team or holding a day of one-to-one meetings with staff members.
Our Talking Toolkit can help you structure these conversations. It guides you through talking points, the main causes of workplace stress, and provides practical ideas on how to improve things.

Time to Talk Day is delivered by the Working Minds campaign partner, Mind, as well as charity Rethink Mental Illness, in partnership with the Co-op.
