Lone workers can be at greater risk of harm as they may not have anyone to help or support them if things go wrong.
Employers should provide training, supervision, monitoring and support for those working alone.

A man was given an 18-month community order for illegally removing asbestos. He did not hold a licence to safely remove asbestos, and failed to ensure a 4-stage clearance was carried out by a person accredited by an appropriate body, posing serious risk.
The community order consists of 15 days of rehabilitation, 90 days of monitored alcohol abstinence as well as carrying out 150 hours of unpaid work.
HSE's investigation also found that the man had received the relevant training on how to safely remove licenced asbestos and was therefore fully aware of the legal requirement to hold a licence.
