2024: a year of transformative step change

Last year was a ‘coming of age’ for BSR. In 2024, a pivotal phase lies ahead for everyone in the built environment.

Last year we established the groundwork and foundations for a world-leading building safety regime which places the safety of residents front and centre.

As 2024 gets underway, fresh responsibilities and new milestones are ahead of us all.

High-rise building registration: did you know?

'Did you know?' graphic

You can now self-serve changes to already submitted applications in the registration portal.

If you’ve already submitted an application to register a high-rise residential building (HRB) and need to amend the registration or key buildings information you have provided, you can now do this directly in the registration portal.

If your application has been submitted you have 14 days to inform BSR of changes to your registration information and 28 days for any changes to your key building information.

Our guidance on applying to register a HRB has also been updated.

You can find new information on the process including:

  • the cost of a review
  • managing your information
  • how to change and add a user for the service

You can find other useful information on the registration process and using the service portal on our Building Safety campaign website.

Updates to monitoring arrangements for the building control profession

The monitoring arrangements which underpin the Operational Standards Rules (OSRs) have been updated.

In April 2023 we published draft OSRs that will apply to building control bodies (BCBs) from April 2024.

The OSRs set out the practices, procedures and performance standards that Local Authorities and Registered Building Control Approvers (RBCAs) must adopt in relation to their building control functions.

The OSRs are underpinned by monitoring arrangements, which include key performance indicators and reportable data that BCBs will be required to submit to BSR from April 2024.
