HSE has taken the decision to adopt new guidance for assessing non-dietary exposure to plant protection products
In November 2022 HSE announced its proposal to adopt the use of the 2022 EFSA Exposure Guidance in GB, this guidance has been in use in the European Union and Northern Ireland from 1 January 2023. HSE also committed to carrying out a survey to gather stakeholder views on the proposal.
A summary of the comments received during the survey and a response to these comments by HSE is available on our website. Where appropriate, HSE has also provided information on possible refinements that could be applied to the assessment of non-dietary exposure of operators, workers, residents and bystanders.
HSE has concluded that it is appropriate to adopt the 2022 EFSA Exposure Guidance in GB. The new guidance will enter into force on 1 January 2024, after which all applications for the authorisation of plant protection products in GB should be submitted using the 2022 EFSA Exposure Guidance and the associated EFSA OPEX Model, where appropriate.
Prior to this date, applications for authorisation of plant protection products in GB may be submitted either using the 2014 EFSA Exposure Guidance or the 2022 EFSA Exposure Guidance.
There have been recent amendments to the GB maximum residue level (MRL) Statutory Register, setting new statutory levels.
In order to meet the requirements of international trade, new MRLs have been set in the GB MRL Statutory Register for the following active/commodity combinations:
- Fludioxonil/ various commodities
- Cyprodinil/ various berries
The new MRLs for fludioxonil came into force on 18 July 2023 and the new MRLs for cyprodinil came into force on 28 July 2023 as indicated in the GB MRL Statutory Register.
