Ionising radiation: changes to registration and consent processes

HSE is changing part of its regulatory approach to regulating under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 (IRR17).

These changes are a result of recommendations made by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

From 1 October 2023, employers will need to submit more information when applying for registration or consent for work with ionising radiation.

Also, instead of a fixed fee for consent applications, a fee will be charged to recover HSE’s costs.

Visit our website to find out more information about these changes

Dentists – can you help HSE?

We want people who work with ionising radiation to be able to notify HSE or apply for registration or consent as easily as possible.

A large number of dentists apply for registration. If you are a dentist and can help us test our updated service and guidance, please let us know.

If you wish to take part, email HSE at: hse.online@hse.gov.uk
