HSE Pesticides ebulletin

An independent pesticides regulatory regime is in operation in Great Britain (England, Scotland and Wales).

This ebulletin includes information on the Plant Protection Products (PPP) regulations in Great Britain (GB) and Northern Ireland (NI).

New guidance on stereoisomers will be adopted in GB from 1 January 2024

In July 2019 the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) published new guidance on risk assessment for PPPs and active substances containing stereoisomers as components or impurities.

From August 2021 this guidance has applied in NI.

Following detailed consideration HSE has concluded that it is appropriate to adopt the EFSA 2019 guidance for the relevant GB assessments, with a number of modifications to meet the needs of GB.

Applicants are encouraged to use this guidance for their assessments from this point forwards.

From 1 January 2024 relevant applications must use this guidance.
