Working Minds: Champions update

Issued: 16 December 2022

We’re nearly at the end of 2022, and Christmas is just around the corner.

Thank you for your continued support as a champion of the Working Minds campaign, please carry on sharing our messages across your own networks at this critical time of year for stress and mental health.

Latest HSE figures show stress, depression and anxiety at work continue to rise

HSE recently published the latest annual health and safety statistics for Great Britain.

The latest figures, for 2021/22, showed that half of all people off sick from work are suffering from stress, depression, or anxiety, with an estimated 914,000 cases of absence.

That’s an 11% rise from 2020/21, and an estimated 17 million working days lost.

This is why champions like yourselves are so important to the Working Minds campaign. Lets keep promoting good mental health and push for that culture change in your workplace.

You can highlight the importance of supporting good mental health to employers, particularly by reinforcing the Working Minds ‘Five Rs’.

Working Minds campaign looks at work-related stress, depression, and anxiety in the automotive sector

Motor repair trade organisations have joined forces with HSE's Working Minds campaign to tackle work-related stress in the industry ahead of Christmas.

Working Minds, together with our partners the National Body Repair Association (NBRA), the commercial Vehicle Body Repair Association (VBRA), the Independent Garage Association (IGA), and automotive charity, Ben, are working together to provide information and advice to make sure that employers and workers know what support is available in the run-up to Christmas.

Ben has reported an increase in people asking for help during the winter months. The charity is currently running a confidential survey of people who work, or have worked, in the automotive sector to help them improve the support and services they provide.
