New GB active substance open invitation deadline

Submit a notification by the deadline to keep active substances in the GB Review Programme

HSE has published an open invitation (.PDF) to provide an opportunity for a person, company or task force/consortium to notify an intention to take up or take over the role of participant in the GB Review Programme for the following active substance/product type combinations.

Anyone wishing to support one of the active substance/product type combinations listed below in Great Britain (GB) will need to submit a notification (.docx) to HSE by the following deadline:

  • Active chlorine generated from sodium chloride by electrolysis (CAS 7782-50-5 EC n/a) in product types 2, 3, 4 and 5
    12 August 2023

If a notification to take over the role of participant is not received, these active substance/product type combinations will be subject to a GB non-approval decision. Biocidal products containing active substances with GB non-approval decisions for the relevant product types will have to be removed from the GB market. HSE will provide separate updates on these where relevant.

If you are aware of any disproportionate negative effects that are likely to arise from the non-approval of any of the active substance/product type combinations listed above, please contact us.

Application for approval withdrawn in GB

Following the withdrawal of the application for approval under the GB BPR, the active substance/product type combinations listed below is no longer supported in GB:

  • Active chlorine generated from sodium chloride by electrolysis CAS 7782-50-5 EC n/a in product type 1

This active substance/product type combination was not included in the GB Review Programme. HSE is therefore not able to publish an open invitation for the role of participant to be taken over. However, any person, company or task force/consortium may submit an application for approval of this active substance/product type combinations at any time.

As this active substance was not part of the GB Review Programme, there should not be any biocidal products containing it on the GB market at this time. Biocidal products containing this active substance in the relevant product type can only be supplied and used in GB once the active substance is approved and the specific biocidal product is authorised under GB BPR.

Phase-out periods for the removal of biocidal products from the GB market are not applicable in these circumstances.
