Construction sites across Great Britain are being targeted as part of a month-long HSE respiratory health inspection initiative and Dust Kills campaign.
Site inspections focusing on dust control commenced on 6 June 2022.
The inspections are checking employers and workers know the risks, plan their work and are using the right controls to protect workers from inhaling construction dust including respirable crystalline silica (RCS) and wood dust.
HSE has partnered with construction and occupational health organisations to highlight the health risks and the control measures required on site to prevent exposure to dust. The network of partners includes British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), Construction Industry Advisory Committee (CONIAC), Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA), Construction Leadership Council (CLC), Health in Construction Leadership Group (HCLG) and Construction Dust Partnership.
We have advice for employers, workers and small builders on our Dust Kills campaign website.
You can follow the Dust Kills campaign on HSE's social media channels for resources, advice and support from our campaign partners working together to protect construction workers’ health:

HSE has published its new 10-year strategy – protecting people and places
HSE strategy 2022 to 2023 reflects HSE’s role at its broadest - a role that goes beyond worker protection, to include public safety assurance on a range of issues.
Designed to keep HSE focused on tackling both new and traditional risk, at the right time and in the right way, the strategy sets out clear objectives and themes to guide our future interventions and regulatory activities.
