Shape the future of West London rail
Transport for London (TfL) is asking West London residents for their views on the proposed West London Orbital rail service.
The line would take in four Hounslow stations: Hounslow, Syon Lane, Isleworth and Brentford. It would connect these locations to others across West and North West London, making travel in the area much easier and quicker.
The scheme is backed by 190 local businesses, who recently wrote to the Chancellor expressing their support for the proposals.
Community Energy Fund
The Council is making £150,000 in funding available to eligible community organisations, charities, faith groups and community venues for projects that deliver both environmental benefits and lasting value for local communities. Groups can apply for grants up to £40,000.
The Community Energy Fund has already helped organisations across the borough invest in practical improvements that reduce energy costs, improve buildings and enhance community spaces through air source heat pumps, LED lighting, insulation and Solar PV.
If you know a community group who might benefit, please make them aware and share the application page with them.
My First Library Card for newborns
Every baby born in Hounslow will soon receive a My First Library Card when their birth is registered, helping families start their child’s reading journey from day one.
Launching this autumn, the initiative will connect parents and carers to free books, activities, Rhymetime sessions and support through Hounslow’s libraries and community hubs.
The scheme is part of the Council’s commitment to giving every child the best possible start in life by supporting early literacy, language development and a lifelong love of reading.
Rare wildflower takes root in Hounslow
One of the UK’s rarest native plants has found a new home on Hounslow Heath. Working with Citizen Zoo, Habitats and Heritage, local volunteers and other partners, the Council has helped to establish a new population of tower mustard.
This threatened wildflower supports bees, butterflies and other pollinators, helping protect local biodiversity for future generations

Carers Rights Day at Hounslow House
The Council will be hosting an event to mark Carers Rights Day at Hounslow House on Saturday, 21 November, from 10.30am to 3pm.
The theme is the early identification of unpaid carers, encouraging residents to recognise the value of their role and the legal rights, benefits and support they’re entitled to. Many unpaid carers simply associate their caring duties with the natural responsibility of a partner, parent, family friend, or neighbour.
Hounslow Carers Service is available for advice, information and support including regular Carer Cafes. The next coming is up on Wednesday, 28 October at Bristol Court, United Drive, Feltham, TW14 9AG, from 2pm to 4pm.
People across Hounslow are invited to anonymously share stories of loss to form part of a moving international archive.
Entries close on 6 January 2027. Local losses will be physicalised in a light installation at The Weir and other Brentford locations on Saturday, 30 January.
This project is brought to you by Watermans. You can find out more and add your losses anonymously on the ByTheLightOfOurLosses website.

The Kids in Care Awards (KICA) took place at the Courtyard by Marriott on Friday, 16 October, celebrating the achievements and successes of Hounslow’s children and young people in care.
The event recognised accomplishments across a wide range of areas including education, personal development, resilience, and contributions to the community. This year, 282 nominations were submitted. In total, 158 children and young people were nominated, with 85 selected as winners and 78 recognised during the ceremony.
Each winner walked the illuminated walkway (pictured) to a song of their choice. The Mayor of Hounslow then presented trophies and prizes, ensuring each winner left with a lasting reminder of their success. The evening was a powerful celebration of the resilience, talent and determination of Hounslow’s children and young people in care.
