Mahesh, a father of two from Hounslow who looks after his wife Sangeetha, has experienced a very difficult couple of years.
Thanks to Sue at the Health Outreach Team, he was able to access council support while also recognising that he was an unpaid carer.
He said: “I learned so much from Sue. I want to thank her because I wasn’t even aware that I was an unpaid carer and entitled to support. She helped me organise myself and get a Carer’s Assessment, and she also told me about the Carer Cafés.”
Mahesh was recently nominated for a Carer’s Award for an event to be held at Hounslow House on Friday, 20 November.
Head to the Council's website to find out more about the support available to all unpaid carers in Hounslow.

Breaking the Stigma
There’s no single story of addiction – and sometimes hearing someone else talk openly about their experiences can be the first step towards asking for help.
That’s the message behind Breaking the Stigma, a podcast featuring real-life stories, expert advice and honest conversations about substance use, mental health, recovery and rebuilding lives.
The podcast is for both residents who want support and professionals who work with residents facing addiction.
Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health and in Hounslow you don't have to do it alone. There are three ways to get free support to stop smoking in our borough. You can choose the option that works best for you:
The Council recently caught up with the Smokefree Three. They are Hounslow residents who have successfully quit using the available help.
Watch the Smokefree Three video to hear from them, learn about the support they chose and decide which route would work best for you.
