Fourteen new communication boards have been installed at playgrounds in parks across the borough, with four more to come. This is thanks to a new partnership between West London NHS Trust and the Council.
The boards feature symbols and words that children can point to during play. They allow children with communication difficulties to show others what they want, what they need, or simply comment on what they see around them.
It’s a way to help children to communicate with their parents and friends, making playtime inclusive for all. The project also helps raise awareness of alternative forms of communication, encouraging a wider cultural shift toward inclusivity and understanding.
The persistent high temperatures mean there is a currently a high risk of wildfires in Hounslow. We can all do our bit to prevent wildfires by following these rules:
- Do not light fires in the countryside or other open spaces including parks, moorland and wooded areas
- Only use barbecues in designated areas where they are permitted and never leave them unattended
- Ensure smoking materials are fully stubbed out and disposed of carefully
- Take all rubbish home with you, especially glass bottles that can focus the sun’s rays and start a fire
If you come across a wildfire burning, please get to a safe location and call 999 immediately.

Any woman who is pregnant can access NHS maternity services. It's recommended that you book an appointment with a midwife in the first 10 weeks of your pregnancy.

The Council is reviewing its policy around financial support for aids and adaptations to residential housing, including grants that help residents adapt and repair their homes to live safely and independently.
The new policy will:
- Increase some grant limits in line with rising costs
- Introduce new grants to support a wider range of needs
- Replace the existing Dementia Grant with a broader Progressive Illness Grant
- Remove fees charged to applicants
- Provide clearer guidance on how support is delivered

Talha from Heston, despite being only 14, has been building healthier habits early using the BetterPoints app.
Talha says: "When I joined BetterPoints, my goal was to become more active and spend less time on screens because they affect my eyesight.
"Since taking part, I've become more active, lost weight, and I'm really happy with what I've achieved. BetterPoints has encouraged me to keep moving and make healthier choices.
"I'm going to spend my BetterPoints on vouchers to buy a present for my mum's birthday. It would make her really happy, and that would make me happy too."
He hopes his example will encourage other young people in his community to swap screen time for walking, running or being active outdoors, proving that healthy habits can start at any age.

Free community hub pop-ups are running weekly in the summer holidays. They will be at Cranford Community College from 2.30pm to 4pm every Thursday, starting on 23 July.
