Hounslow celebrates Volunteers' Week
 To mark Volunteers' Week (1-7 June), Councillor Ajmer Grewal, Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Safety (pictured), visited Inclusive Joyful Activities, which supports adults with additional needs.
Run entirely by volunteers, the group recently received £10,000 from the Council’s Thriving Communities Fund, which provides thousands of pounds each year to local charities and community groups.
Films on the Green 2026
 Films on the Green is back and ready for another amazing year.
Head down to Thornbury Park on Saturday, 13 June for a night you won’t want to miss.
Grab your friends, pack a blanket, and get comfy. The evening features a screening of A Hard Day’s Night. Did you know that some scenes from the movie were filmed at Thornbury Park? Expect great entertainment and a lot of Beatles themed fun.
Local food vendors and entertainment start at 6pm, organised by the Friends of Thornbury Park. The film will start at 7.30pm, don't miss out!
Building carer-friendly communities across Hounslow
 Hounslow has around 19,000 unpaid carers supporting loved ones, friends, or neighbours. Carers Week, from Monday, 8 June to Sunday, 14 June, is a chance to celebrate these selfless individuals and the people they care for with daily events offering respite, the chance to learn something new and the opportunity to meet fellow carers.
Our friends at Lampton Leisure are also offering unpaid carers a FREE 3-day pass to use at any of their sites in Hounslow.
Meanwhile, attendees can receive 100 BetterPoints for coming along to Carers Week events. These can be exchanged for high street and Amazon vouchers. Anyone can download the app for free.
All professionals, unpaid carers and anyone interested in learning about support for unpaid carers are welcome to attend Carers Week events.
Are you concerned about a child who may be missing education?
 Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. The cost of not identifying that a child is missing education or notifying the appropriate professionals and responding quickly can be very high.
All children, regardless of their circumstances, are entitled to an efficient, full-time education. This should be suitable to their age, ability, aptitude, and any special educational needs they may have.
Become a member of Youth Parliament
 Young people aged 14-18 in Hounslow can apply to become a Member of the UK Youth Parliament (MYP). This is your opportunity to represent Hounslow on a national stage, campaign on issues that matter, and even debate in the House of Commons.
Successful applicants will need to join the Youth Council for the duration of the appointment, and campaign ahead of elections taking place in July.

Maya and Marley author dedicates new book to Marjory Kinnon School
 Laura Henry Allain MBE, celebrated children’s author and creator of the Maya and Marley series of books (also featured in a Cbeebies show), visited Marjory Kinnon School in Bedfont this week for a reading of her new book, Maya and Marley and the New Friend.
Laura has a relationship with Marjory Kinnon after a previous visit and has dedicated the book to all the children at the school. She did an online and in-person reading for more than 300 pupils.
