Council pays tribute to Cllr Jagdish Sharma MBE
 The Council regrets to announce the passing of Cllr Jagdish Sharma MBE, the longest serving councillor and sitting councillor for the Hounslow West ward.
A legendary councillor in the history of Hounslow, Cllr Sharma MBE had a remarkable and distinguished career spanning over five decades serving as a councillor for almost 52 years to Hounslow residents.
Community cricket partnership for young people
 The Council partnered with Middlesex in the Community (MITC), Sky and Sport Impact to launch a community cricket partnership for young people in Hounslow.
The partnership will make cricket accessible for girls and boys, inspiring participation, building confidence and helping young people get active.
Hounslow Council will work with schools and the local community to increase participation in the sport, while MITC and Sport Impact will provide coaching and support cricket festivals. Sky, whose headquarters are based in the borough, will help organise the partnership and provide volunteers for events.
Local election nominations open
On Monday, 30 March, the Council will publish the Notice of Election, marking the official opening of the nominations process for the local elections which will take place on Thursday, 7 May.
Those standing as a candidate, please book in advance to deliver your nomination papers to our Deputy Returning Officer at Hounslow House, if you haven't done so already.
Poll cards - people who are registered to vote will receive a poll card in coming weeks. However, those who haven’t registered but want to vote in the May local elections can apply online until Monday, 20 April.

Changes to Easter waste and recycling collections
 During the Easter period, from Monday, 6 April to Friday, 10 April, bin collections are moving forward by one day.
Investing new PlayZones to help residents get active
In partnership with the Football Foundation, the Council's PlayZones initiative will invest £1 million to refurbish outdoor mini pitches, providing sporting activities for communities most in need.
The Council is now seeking feedback from residents on proposals for Heston Farm Estate, Clayponds Estate in Brentford and Brabazon Estate in Heston. Following consultation, plans will be submitted to the Council’s planning committee, with works scheduled in late 2026.

Hounslow schools working together to expand SEND provision borough wide
 The Council is strengthening support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) through a pioneering expansion of specialist provision within mainstream schools across the borough.
Working in close partnership with both mainstream and specialist schools, the Council is enabling more pupils with additional needs to access high-quality support while remaining in their existing school communities.
The Community Provisions team are launching a new Employment Support Drop-In service at Holy Trinity Church, Hounslow, with the first session taking place on Monday, 13 April 2026 from 1pm to 4pm. Further dates are scheduled on the second Monday of every month.
The service is aimed at adults with disabilities or health conditions who are looking for work, struggling in their current job or would like some guidance and confidence to take their next step.

 Since the Council pledged to invest £1.6 million over five years in 2025, over 15,000 residents have benefitted from social welfare advice issues including benefits, housing and debt. This support has helped to:
- Secure £17 million in financial gains for local residents. This includes over £11million in additional benefits for residents and £4.3 million in debt managed or written off
- Support over 2,500 residents to avoid homelessness and help reduce over £1.4 million in rent arrears
- Resolve 60,000 issues from local residents through phone support or drop-in sessions in Feltham, Chiswick and other locations across the borough
Hounslow’s creative community - have your say
 The Council has commissioned DCA Consultants to carry out a Creative Employment Study, building a clearer picture of the people behind the borough’s creative workforce.
Resident insight will help us better understand working patterns, income security, skills and training needs, workspace challenges and the barriers and opportunities you face.
The survey takes just 10-15 minutes. All responses are confidential and reported anonymously.
Are you interested in construction training?
Young people aged 16-24 who are unemployed and not in education or training can join the face-to-face session on Wednesday, 1 April with MIT Skills to learn about career pathways.
The session will run from 3pm to 4.30pm at Hounslow Community Hub and Library. Registration is required.

Weekend carers cafe
 Hounslow’s Carers Service are hosting a Weekend Cafe at Chiswick Cinema on Saturday, 11 April from 10am to 12.30pm.
There are over 19,000 unpaid carers in Hounslow, and this is an opportunity for those in the Chiswick area to meet up, relax and learn more from fellow carers and the Council’s team, who will be on hand to offer further advice, guidance and support.
Improving access to healthy food
 The Council has outlined its plans to improve access to healthy food in a new report. It highlights the ways it’s improving the local food system by supporting community growing projects, healthy cooking classes, and much more.
This work has seen Hounslow’s efforts lauded in the Good Food Local (London) report published on Wednesday, 18 March. It revealed that Hounslow is one of the leading London boroughs in areas including community food action, healthier food environment, Holiday Activities and Food (HAF), and food growing.
