Welcome to the latest edition of the Clean and Green update.
After a busy start to the year, February was a month filled with energy, ideas, and collaboration. I’ve had the privilege of taking part in a series of roundtable discussions that brought together colleagues from across local government, transport, planning, and climate leadership. Each conversation reinforced something I see every day in Hounslow: that local action, informed by local voices, is at the heart of real climate progress.
A highlight of the month was attending the launch of the Local Power Plan. This new national framework represents a huge boost for community-owned energy, something we will be developing in the coming months. The Government also recently launched its Warm Homes Plan. With so many households struggling with high bills and inefficient homes, this national commitment to retrofitting and upgrading housing stock is urgently needed, and councils like ours will play a central role in delivery.
This edition includes a wide range of updates, including:
- Coverage of our e-bike safety campaign and recent pop-up safety event with Voi, supporting the transition to safer, greener travel
- Opportunities to help save one of the UK's rarest plant species
- And community news from the Friends of Harvard Hill
- An invitation to share your views as part of our public consultations on public transport, resilience to climate change and EV charging infrastructure
As always, thank you for your interest, your ideas, and your commitment to making Hounslow cleaner, greener, and more resilient. I hope you enjoy this month’s update, and I look forward to sharing more with you over the coming months as our work continues.
Councillor Katherine Dunne, Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport at Hounslow Council
