12 August 2025
The current heatwave is set to continue for the next week. While this brings opportunities to explore Hounslow's great green spaces, it also comes with health risks.
Warm weather can impact vulnerable groups, including older people and those with underlying health conditions. Please take care to protect yourself and others from the potential risks of extreme weather.
People sleeping rough can also suffer severe consequences during hot weather due to the lack of shelter and access to water. If you're worried about someone you see sleeping rough, please contact the StreetLink team who can offer them support.
Do you want to work for the NHS? Then join an online session on NHS careers with West Middlesex University Hospital on Tuesday, 26 August, from 9.30am to 10.30am.
The hospital's Apprenticeship Delivery Manager will share insights into the Level 2 Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship, the application process, and career pathways within the NHS.
Work Hounslow will also provide information about its personalised employment support services for unemployed residents.
If you are a new parent, you can get peer support and advice for feeding your baby through NCT's Hounslow Infant Feeding service.
There is a range of peer support available, from breastfeeding cafes to relaxed, buggy-friendly walks with trained feeding volunteers. It's a great way to hear from other mums who have been where you are and build your confidence.
If you want to be a peer support volunteer yourself, you can get free training from NCT. The next course starts in October. Find out more and apply here.
Are you a carer for someone with dementia? Join the Alzheimer's Society peer support group to meet other carers, exchange knowledge and share your experiences - all with tea, coffee and biscuits!
There's a group at Isleworth Fire Station, 520 London Road, from 10.30am - 12pm on Wednesday, 13 August.
Please call 0208 563 0360 or email hounslow@alzheimers.org.uk to confirm your attendance. If you can't make this session, you can see all future dates here.
Do you work in the building trade and find things are getting too much? Talking can help. The Council's new campaign, Bummed Out, shows you’re not alone and there are people you can turn to.
Check out a list of free and confidential support including men’s mental health groups, drug and alcohol support, gambling charities, and more.
Whatever is causing you pain, there’s someone you can speak to and get you back on track.
There are over 19,000 unpaid carers in Hounslow, and they’re caring for longer hours than ever before.
Even if you don’t consider yourself a carer, and you look after a family member, a friend or a neighbour full-time or for a few hours now and again, you are one. The new Hounslow Carers Service can provide you with information, advice, and practical support in convenient locations across the borough.
The team can help with benefits (Attendance Allowance & Carer’s Allowance), Blue Badge, Dial-a-Ride, Taxi Card, support services and more.
You can join them this week at one of their regular community hubs:
-
Thursday, 14 August – Feltham Library from 10am to 2pm
-
Friday, 15 August - Brentford Library from 10am to 2pm
There are also other opportunities throughout August where you can meet the team and get help.
Do you know your fact from fiction when it comes to your sexual health? A new campaign from Sexual Health Hounslow (SHH) and the Council is busting the most common myths around sexually transmitted infections (STIs), contraception and unwanted pregnancy.
An animated video talks you through some of the misinformation out there, meaning you can feel confident when looking after your sexual health. The best way to keep yourself and any sexual partners safe is by regular STI testing, even if you don't have symptoms.
You can order a home testing kit from the Sexual Health London website. It's free, confidential and easy.
From this month, the dates children receive some of their first vaccinations is changing. You can download a handy guide of the new schedule here.
